ATMP or aminotris(methylenephosphonic acid) is a phosphonic acid with chemical formula N(CH2PO3H2)3. It has chelating properties. It can be synthesized from the Mannich-type reaction of ammonia, formaldehyde, and phosphorous acid. ATMP has better antiscale performance than that of polyphosphate through its excellent chelating ability, low threshold inhibition and lattice distortion process. It can prevent scale formation in water systems. ATMP is the phosphonate analog of nitrilotriacetic acid.

 

Application: A scale and corrosion inhibitor for cooling circulation water units and boilers; Metal chelate agent and color fixing agent for print and textile; Complexing agent for electron plate and water scale cleaning agent for metals.

General Information

The amine of the chemical formula C3 H12 N O9 P3 is trimethylene phosphoric acid (ATMP); It is a water-soluble, crystalline powder with excellent chelation properties, low threshold inhibition and lattice degradability. Amino Trimetilen Phosphonic acid can also be called.
ATMP is a stable material that can be hydrolyzed in hard water system. At high concentration, ATMP has good corrosion inhibition. . There are important differences in the phosphonic acid group, which can be taken into account for cooling water conditioning, in terms of stability and effectiveness. Due to their sensitivity to iron, phosphonates prevent iron oxide precipitation even at very low concentrations.

Production and Reactions

While phosphonic acid and phosphonates are chemically and thermally more stable than polyphosphates, they are better hardness stabilizers, while polyphosphates are better corrosion inhibitors. Corrosion inhibition of iron-based materials with phosphonate can only be achieved by increasing the amount of phosphonate required to stabilize the hardness by approximately 10 times. HEDP has significantly better corrosion inhibitor properties than PBTC, ATMP or DTPMP. The disadvantage of HEDP, calcium resistance weakness, requires the addition of special carboxylates and high HEDP concentrations to prevent high calcium hardness corrosion inhibition and Ca-HEDP collapse.
