The INCI names ceteareth-50 refer to polyoxyethylene ethers of a mixture of high molecular mass saturated fatty alcohols, mainly cetyl alcohol (m = 15) and stearyl alcohol (m = 17). The number n indicates the average number of ethylene oxide residues in the polyoxyethylene chain.
These compounds are non-ionic surfactants that work by attracting both water and oil at the same time, frequently used as emulsifiers in soaps and cosmetics.[1]

Ceteareth-50 is a nonionic surfactant prepared from cetyl and stearyl alcohol and 50 moles of ethylene oxide. It is used in cosmetics as a surfactant and emulsifier: HLB (17.7). It makes it possible to create emulsions of the oil-in-water type.
It is controversial given its manufacturing process and low biodegradability.

Its functions (INCI)
Cleaning agent: Helps keep a clean surface
Emulsifying agent: Promotes the formation of intimate mixtures between immiscible liquids by modifying the interfacial tension (water and oil)
Surfactant: Reduces the surface tension of cosmetics and contributes to the uniform distribution of the product during its use

Imbentin-AG/168S/500 comprises of natural alcohols C16-18, ethoxylated with 50 mol EO (INCI Declaration: Ceteareth-50). A non-ionic surfactant possessing excellent detergent and solubilizing properties, suitable for applications in cleaning products, the leather & textile industry and other industries.

Ceteareth 50 functions as an emollient and emulsifier in cosmetic formulations. Used with other ingredients (fatty alcohols and fatty acids) it acts as a solubilizer and thickening agent. Ceteareth 50 functions also as a non-ionic stabilizer in oil in water emulsions. Ceteareth 50 can be used in a mixture with other non-ionic auxiliary agents and in mixtures with anionic and cationic surface active agents.

Cetostearyl Alcohol (CH3(CH2)nOH) is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols that can come from vegetable or synthetic sources. It is classified as a fatty alcohol. Cetostearyl alcohol is a white, waxy, solid material in the form of flakes. It is oil soluble, but it is not water-soluble. In the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry, cetostearyl alcohol functions as an emulsion stabilizer; opacifying agent; surfactant - foam booster; and viscosity increasing agent. It is often used in creams and lotions. It has a melting point of 122°F (50°C) and a boiling point: 480.2°F (249°C).
