Its function is very similar to that of Cocamide DEA and Cocamide MEA. Its mostly contained in personal care products such as shampoo, hair dye, conditioner, body wash, dandruff treatment, bubble bath, exfoliant/scrub, cleanser and liquid hand soap.

Cocamide is a mixture of amides manufysjshsusususisuqactured from the fatty acids obtained from coconut oil. As coconut oil contains about 50% of lauric acid, in formulas only the 12-carbon chains tend to be considered. Therefore the formula of cocamide can be written as CH3(CH2)10CONH2, though the number of carbon atoms in the chains varies (it is always even).

Cocamide is the structural basis of many surfactants. Common are ethanolamines (cocamide MEA, cocamide DEA), betaine compounds (cocamidopropyl betaine), and hydroxysultaines (cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine).

Cocamide Mipa is used as a foam stabilizer, so all the nice lather that gets built up stays all bubbly.  It is also a thickening agent, keeping the shampoo from being too runny.  Another thickening agent is PEG-55 propylene glycol oleate.

Amidex™ CIPA surfactant: Cocamide MIPA:    Amidex™ CIPA surfactant is a non DEA amide and is compatible with anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. Amidex™ CIPA surfactant provides an excellent viscosity response and foam enhancement to create a rich, dense foam at cost-effective use levels and is used in shower gels, shampoos, hand soaps, skin cleansers and other cleansing products. It can replace DEA amides and MEA amides at a 50% use level.

Mackamide CPA is a 1:1 coconut monoisopropanolamide that is 100% DEA and MEA free. Ultra pure and optimized Mackamide CPA provides enhanced viscosity response and foam stability. Mackamide CPA has very low residual reactants and by products making it ideal for natural formulations.
