PRODUCTION of DBE (DIBASIC ESTER):
Dibasic esters are generally produced by catalytic esterification of dicarboxylic acids.
Adipic acid, glutaric acid and succinic acid react with methanol in presence of an acidic catalyst (homogeneous or heterogeneous) with the following two stage cascade reactions:
Diacid + Methanol <---------> Monomethyl Ester+ water (1)
Monomethyl Ester + Methanol <---------> Dimethyl Ester + water (2)
Since it is an equilibrium reaction, removing water from the system causes the reaction to shift towards formation of the desired product according to Le Chatelier’s principle.
By studying phase equilibrium, it is possible to find any potential azeotrope and figure out the best way to separate water from the system.
Also, boiling range of the components is extremely important in design of process.

BENEFITS of DBE (DIBASIC ESTER) IN ENGINE OILS:
-Volatility:
The polarity of Dibasic ester molecules causes them to be attracted to one another and this intermolecular attraction requires more energy (heat) for the esters to transfer from a liquid to a gaseous state.
Therefore, at a given molecular weight or viscosity, the esters will exhibit a lower vapor pressure which translates into a higher flash point and a lower rate of evaporation for the lubricant.
Generally speaking, the more ester linkages in a specific ester, the higher its flash point and the lower its volatility.
-Lubricity:
Polarity also causes Dibasic ester molecules to be attracted to positively charged metal surfaces.
As a result, the molecules tend to line up on the metal surface creating a film which requires additional energy (load) to penetrate. The result is a stronger film which translates into higher lubricity and lower energy consumption in lubricant applications.
-Detergency/Dispersency:
The polar nature of Dibasic ester also makes them good solvents and dispersants.
This allows the esters to solubilize or disperse oil degradation by-products which might otherwise be deposited as varnish or sludge, and translates into cleaner operation and improved additive solubility in the final lubricant.
-Biodegradability:
While stable against oxidative and thermal breakdown, the ester linkage provides a vulnerable site for microbes to begin their work of biodegrading the ester molecule.
This translates into very high biodegradability rates for ester lubricants and allows more environmentally friendly products to be formulated.

PRODUCT TYPES of DBE (DIBASIC ESTER):
Dibasic esters, also known as DBEs, are the refined dimethyl esters formulated by varying the composition of adipic acid, glutaric acid and succinic acid.
The primarily produced dibasic ester is further distilled to produce the dibasic ester specialty fractions designated as DBE-2, DBE-3, DBE-4, DBE-5, DBE-6 and DBE-9.
The physical characteristics of dibasic ester include clear, colorless liquid with a mild odor.

Dibasic Ester – 2 (DBE-2)
Dibasic Ester – 3 (DBE-3)
Dibasic Ester – 4 (DBE-4)
Dibasic Ester – 5 (DBE-5)
Dibasic Ester – 6 (DBE-6)
Dibasic Ester – 9 (DBE-9)

Based on product type, Dibasic Ester is segmented into Dibasic Ester – 2 (DBE-2), Dibasic Ester – 3 (DBE-3), Dibasic Ester – 4 (DBE-4), Dibasic Ester – 5 (DBE-5), Dibasic Ester–6 (DBE-6), and Dibasic Ester – 9 (DBE-9).
DBE-4, DBE-5 and DBE-6 are abundant & economical sources of the glutarate, adipic, and succinic moieties for organic synthesis.
DBE-2, DBE-5, and DBE-9 are mainly used in the preparation of long-chain water solvable polyamides which can be reacted with epichlorohydrin to form wet-strength paper resins.
Based on application, market is segmented into coil and can coatings, wire enamel coatings, automotive coatings, polyester and epoxy sealing coat, pesticides and insecticides, industrial paint, foundry core resin binder, formulations, corrosion inhibitors, hi&i cleaning, printing inks, liquid detergents, soil stabilization, textile lubricants and wet strength paper resins.
In addition, based on end-use industry, market is segmented into textile industry, foundry & casting industry, paints & coating industry, chemical industry, general industrial, agrochemicals industry and others.

COMPONENTS of DBE (DIBASIC ESTER):
Dimethyl Gluturate (1119-40-0)
Dimethyl Adipate (627-93-0)
Dimethyl Succinate (106-65-0)
Methanol (67-56-1)

Dibasic ester has extra-strong solvency, and is a biodegradable environmental friendly solvent with high boiling point.
Dibasic ester is a mixture of three kinds of solvents and is also known as dibasic ester (commonly called as Dimethyl nylon acid).
The main components of Dibasic ester are dimethyl succinate CH3OOC(CH2)2COOCH3 15-25%, dimethyl glutarate CH3OOC(CH2)3COOCH3 55-65%, and dimethyl adipate CH3OOC(CH2)4COOCH3 10-25%.
The proportion of each component is adjustable.
