DISPONIL A 3065

Mixture of ethoxylated linear fatty alcohols. 
Disponil A 3065 is used as surfactant.

Non-ionic surfactant that enables the production of polymeric dispersions with stabilization properties.

Applications of Disponil A 3065:
Application Disponil A 3065 is a 65 % aqueous solution of a mixture of non-ionic surfactants. 
Disponil A 3065 has been developed especially for application in emulsion polymerization. 

Disponil A 3065 can be used alone or in combination with anionic or cationic surfactants. 
The concentration should be in the range of 1 to 5 % AS depending on the type and composition of monomers used for polymerization.

Disponil A 3065 can also be used for emulsification of hydrophobic liquids or for dispersing of hydrophobic particles like pigments, resins or fats in water. 
The HLB-value is approximately 16.5.

Benefits of Disponil A 3065:
Disponil A types are modified ethoxylates of native fatty alcohols with improved process behavior in comparison to the standard fatty alcohol ethoxylates. 
They are readily biodegradable.

Solubility of Disponil A 3065:
As most linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates, the Disponil A types exhibit a phase behaviour when diluted with water. 
The following diagram shows the pourpoint of dilutions with different active matter concentrations. 

When diluting the products Disponil A 3065 should be ensured to stay at temperatures well above the pourpoint in order to avoid gel phases
In addition Disponil A 3065 is recommended to add the products to the water phase

Viscosity of Disponil A 3065: 
The relationship of the viscosity as a function of temperature is always an important point to consider, as far as storage, shipping and dosage is concerned.

Dynamics of Disponil A 3065: 
Dynamic surface tension is an indicative measure of the speed with which a surfactant can orientate at new interfaces. 
This is particularly important, for example, during the dosing processes. 

Storage of Disponil A 3065: 
Disponil A 3065 is recommended to store the Disponil A types at temperatures above their pourpoints and at a maximum of 50 °C.
If the products are exposed to temperatures below their pourpoint they may form gels or become crystalline. 

The products are not damaged by low temperatures, but they will become unpumpable and heterogeneous.
The homogeneous state is to be recovered by gentle heating and stirring at maximum 50 °C.

Shelf life of Disponil A 3065: 
The Disponil types have a shelf life of at least 24 months, provided they are stored properly and drums are kept tightly sealed.
The pH value might drop throughout the storage time, which is a common phenomena of ethoxylated fatty alcohols. 

This usually does not have a negative effect on the product quality. 
If required the pH value may be increased by adding sodium hydroxyde solution.

Safety of Disponil A 3065: 
We know of no ill effects that could have resulted from using the Disponil A types for the purpose for which they are intended and from processing them in accordance with current practice.
According to the experience we have gained over many years and other information at our disposal, the Disponil A types do not exert any harmful effects on health, provided that they are used properly, due attention is given to the precautions necessary for handling chemicals, and the information and advice given in our safety data sheets are observed.

Properties of Disponil A 3065: 
Disponil A 3065 is a non-ionic surfactant that imparts to a polymer dispersion during and after poly- merization nearly identical stabilization and application properties as a nonyl phenol-EO30
(nonyl phenol ethoxylated with 30 mols of ethylene oxide) or similar highly ethoxylated alkyl phenols without showing bad biodegradability properties and formation of toxic metabolites during biodegradability process.
As well under the aspect of formation of coagulum during polymerization as under consideration of properties of polymer films drawn from the dispersions, like minimum film formation temperature, water resistance and water absorption, DISPONIL A 3065 can be used as substitute for highly ethoxylated alkyl phenols.

Disponil A 3065 only contains linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates. 
For this reason Disponil A 3065 shows good biodegradability properties. 

As a consequence of a BiAS-decrease > 90 % Disponil A 3065 can be labeled as biodegradable within the scope of the German washing and cleaning agents law. 
Disponil A 3065 is a 65 % liquid formulation showing a solidification point < 10 °C. 

Fatty alcohol ethoxylates with linear structur usually build liquid-crystalline phases in the concentration range between about 30 and 60 % surfactant. 
Above 60 % surfactant content these surfactant solutions are usually solid. 
In this case the surfactant has been crystallized out while the contained water is inclosed in these crystalline systems. 

These physical properties of aqueous surfactant solutions result in the fact that mixtures that are liquid at room temperature can only be manufactured or handled in a concentration range below 30 % surfactant content. 
Disponil A 3065 is a concentrate of linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates that is liquid at room temperature. 
Concentrations and temperatures of phase transitions of Disponil A 3065 can be take from the phase diagram. 

Disponil A 3065 can be diluted at room temperature without formation of liquid crystalline phases. 
Any concentration of DISPONIL A 3065 below 65 % active content can be handled, because no gel phase with increased viscosity occures. 
A gel phase only occures below 15 °C as can be seen in the phase diagram.
