What is Sorbitan Cocoate?
Sorbitan Cocoate functions in skincare and cosmetics as a/an emulsifying ingredient.

Definition
"Sorbitan" refers to the ingredient sorbitan hydride. Sorbitan consists of a mixture of several isomeric cyclic compounds, which are formed by the splitting off of a molecule of water from sorbitol. "Cocoate" means the ester of

Potential Uses:
     emulsifying agents
Its functions  :Emulsifying : Promotes the formation of intimate mixtures between immiscible liquids by modifying the interfacial tension (water and oil)

the act of emulsion: a suspension of small globules of one liquid in a second liquid with which the first will not mix
Sorbitan cocoate is used in cosmetic formulations. The sorbitan fatty acid ester acts as an emulsifier (a surface-active substance which is used in cosmetic products as an auxiliary agent to combine two immiscible liquids - e.g. oil and water - into one emulsion).

INDUSTRY

Cosmetic

The monoester of coconut acid and
hexitol anhydrides derived from
sorbitol: The fatty acid residues
from coconut acid are primarily
comprised of caprylate, caprate,
laurate, myristate, palmitate,
stearate, and oleate

Sorbitan esters were not ocular irritants. These esters and their corresponding fatty acids were not mutagenic. In clinical tests, sorbitan esters were generally minimal to mild skin irritants and were nonsensitizing, but Sorbitan Sesquioleate did produce an allergic
reaction in fewer than 1% of patients with suspected contact dermatitis and addition of Sorbitan Sesquioleate to the components of a fragrance mix used in patch testing increased both irritant and allergic reactions to the fragrance mix.
