Due to its higher performance properties 2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC) is a very cost effective inhibitor compared to standard Phosphonates such as HEDP/ATMP. 
2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC) is mainly due to superior stability to chlorine, bleach and bromine. 
In cooling water PBTC performs well at high PH or temperatures. 
2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC) further shows high effectiveness in high alkaline solutions such as industrial cleaners.

2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC), with its excellence stability against chlorine, high temperatures and high alkali conditions, is used as scale and corrosion inhibitor and as stabilizer for Zinc salts and Calcium salts in aqueous systems.

2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC) is a low phosphorus chemical containing organophosphonate, which is known to be a highly effective threshold scale inhibitor. 
In other words, at very low (ppm level) levels, sub-stoichiometric concentrations calculated on hardness of water, 2-Phosphonobutane-1,2,4,-tricarboxylic Acid (PBTC) acts as excellent scale inhibitor for carbonates, sulfates and phosphates.
