The compound is used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyes and agrochemicals.
3-chloroaniline is o- and p-chloroaniline isomer .

Features
At room temperature, 3-chloroaniline is a colorless or pale yellow liquid that darkens in color under the influence of air.
The compound is sparingly soluble in water and is more soluble in a variety of organic solvents such as ethanol , diethyl ether , acetone , chloroform and benzene , and acid solutions.
3-chloroaniline is irritating to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
The substance may cause formation of methaemoglobin , which may result in blueing of the skin.

Production and use of 3-chloroaniline
3-chloroaniline is prepared by reduction of m-chloronitrobenzene by hydrogenation.
Precious metals or metal sulfides are used as catalysts in the reaction.
Metal oxides are added to the catalyst to prevent the replacement of chlorine by hydrogen during reduction.
3-chloroaniline is sold as either the free base or the hydrochloride salt.

3-chloroaniline is used as a starting material in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, azo dyes , herbicides and insecticides.
Chemicals produced from it include chlorpropham , chlorbromuron , 3-chloroaniline and Mordant Orange 4.

Chemical Properties
clear pale yellow to brown liquid

Uses:
3-chloroaniline is used in the synthesis of pyrimidoazepine analogs as serotonin 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptor ligands for the treatment of obesity.
Also used in the synthesis of novel COX-2 inhibito rs.

General Description
Colorless to light amber liquid with a sweet odor.

3-chloroaniline Used as an intermediate for pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.

Chem int for the herbicide chlorpropham, m-chlorophenyl isocyanurate, pharmaceuticals, and azo dyes and pigments

Produced by low-pressure hydrogenation of 3-chloronitrobenzene in the liquid phase with noble metal and/or noble metal sulfide catalysts.
The addition of metal oxides to the reaction helps avoid dehalogenation.
The yield is approximately 98%.

Colorless to light amber, tends to darken during storage
