Adipic acid is a dibasic saturated carboxylic acid. Forms salts (adipates or adipates), most of which are soluble in water.

Uses of adipic acid:

as a raw material in the production of polyhexamethylene adipinamide
in the production of plasticizers
in the manufacture of polyester polyols for polyurethane systems
in the food industry for sour taste
main component of various descaling products
