ARALDITE EPN 1179 is a high-functionality epoxy novolac resin engineered for advanced thermosetting systems that demand superior thermal performance, chemical resistance, and mechanical durability.
Unlike conventional bisphenol-A based epoxy resins, ARALDITE EPN 1179 is derived from phenolic novolac structures, providing multiple reactive epoxide groups within each molecule.
This elevated functionality enables the formation of highly crosslinked polymer networks when cured with appropriate hardeners such as amines, phenalkamines, or anhydrides.

The increased crosslink density achieved during curing significantly enhances heat resistance, glass transition temperature (Tg), dimensional stability, and solvent resistance.
As a result, ARALDITE EPN 1179 is particularly suitable for applications exposed to aggressive chemicals, high humidity, or elevated service temperatures.
ARALDITE EPN 1179 demonstrates excellent adhesion to metals, concrete, and composite substrates, making it a preferred choice in demanding industrial environments.

In coatings and linings, ARALDITE EPN 1179 contributes to improved barrier properties, reducing permeation of corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, and industrial solvents.
In electrical and electronic applications, ARALDITE EPN 1179's low ionic impurity profile and strong dielectric performance make it suitable for laminates, encapsulation systems, and insulation components that require long-term thermal stability.

Mechanically, cured systems based on ARALDITE EPN 1179 exhibit high compressive strength, strong chemical bonding within the polymer matrix, and improved creep resistance compared to standard epoxy formulations.
ARALDITE EPN 1179 is often incorporated into high-performance flooring systems, tank linings, composite tooling, structural adhesives, and heavy-duty industrial coatings.

ARALDITE EPN 1179 is typically supplied as an amber to brown viscous resin and may require controlled heating to reduce viscosity during processing.
Proper formulation and curing control are essential to manage the exothermic reaction and achieve optimal mechanical and thermal properties.

Due to its multifunctional epoxy structure, ARALDITE EPN 1179 serves as a reliable base resin for high-end epoxy systems where performance, durability, and chemical resistance are critical selection criteria.

ARALDITE EPN 1179 epoxy resin contains more than two epoxy groups per molecule and can be described as multifunctional epoxy resins.
Due to the increased epoxy functionality, EPN resins provide a high cross-link density when properly cured.

Systems based on ARALDITE EPN 1179 epoxy resin possess better chemical and high temperature resistance than those based on standard bisphenol A epoxy resins.
EPN resins are recommended for high performance applications requiring excellent chemical and solvent resistance.

When combined with suitable curing agents (i.e. polyamines, novolacs and anhydrides), they can be used as the sole resins, or in blends with bisphenol A and F epoxy resins, to upgrade the performance of the latter.
ARALDITE EPN 1179 can be used in two-component room temperature cure, forced cure or heat cure systems.

Solventcontaining, high solids, solvent-free or waterborne coatings can be formulated.
The heat-curable systems produce the ultimate performance (chemical and thermal resistance).
This is due to more complete reactions with the curing agents at higher temperatures, and overcoming the steric hindrance of the multifunctional epoxy resins.

ARALDITE EPN 1179 is a multifunctional epoxy novolac resin developed for high-performance thermosetting applications requiring elevated thermal resistance, chemical durability, and mechanical strength.
