BIOCHEK 721 M

DESCRIPTION:

Biochek 721 M is a combination product based on dibromodicyanobutane and bronopol.
The combination of these two active ingredients results in a broad and balanced spectrum of activity against bacteria, mold and yeasts thus providing quick kill properties and long-term protection.
Biochek 721 M is a colorless to pale yellow glycolic solution.

Biochek 721 M is best used as a preservative in products that have a pH ranging from acidic to weakly alkaline.
This makes it possible for Biochek 721 M to be added at various stages of the production process.
In case higher temperatures (> 140 °F/60 °C) or pH values > 9 are to be expected in subsequent processing stages, the product should be added later, since under such conditions Biochek 721 M may be subject to accelerated degradation.

Biochek 721 M is compatible with most formulation components (raw materials, additives).
However, the presence of strong nucleophiles such as sulphurous compounds (hydrogen sulphite, mercaptans, etc.) or amines can cause ineffectiveness.

To obtain reliable and reproducible results, homogeneous distribution in the materials to be protected must be ensured by taking suitable measures in production (stirring, agitating, etc.).
As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability.

USES:

-Antimicrobial which effectively inhibits the growth of microorganisms in paints/coatings
-emulsions
-adhesives
-pigment slurries
-joint compounds
-starch
-textile chemicals.

-Density (68 °F / 20 °C): approx. 9.0 lb/gal (1.1 g/cm3)
-pH (1 % in water): approx. 5
-Viscosity (77 °F / 25 °C): 520 cps (0.52 Pas)
-Solubility: Miscible with water

MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY:

For the handling of Biochek 721 M it is recommended to use plastics (e.g. PVC, PE, PP, HDPE, PTFE) wherever possible for the required equipment (stirrers, hoses, containers, seals, pump parts, etc.).
When using metallic materials, their corrosion resistance must be tested prior to using Biochek ® 721M.
As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability.

USES:

Biochek 721 M is an effective preservative in most aqueous compositions.
The quantities required to give protection depend on several factors, particularly the nature and the sensitivity of the products to be preserved, the pH value, the initial microbial content, the extent of expected contact with microorganisms and the envisaged duration of storage.

The quantity of biocide required can be optimized by taking additional hygienic measures during production, storage and transport.
On account of the numerous preservation problems that occur in practice, Biochek 721 M is recommended to conduct trials at different concentrations in order to test compatibility, stability and biological effectiveness.

-Adhesives:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be incorporated with agitation to the make-up water.
However, where the adhesive is heated, Biochek 721 M preservative should be added during the cool down cycle.

-Joint Compounds:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be incorporated with agitation to the make-up water blend.

-Paints/Coatings:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be incorporated into the make-up water during the grind.

-Pigment Slurries:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be added using moderate agitation immediately following the cool down of the dispersed pigment and prior to pumping to the storage tank facilities.

-Textile Chemicals:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be incorporated with agitation to the make-up water blend.

-Starch:

Biochek 721 M preservative should be incorporated with agitation to the make-up water.
However, where the starch is heated, Biochek ® 721M preservative should be added during the cool down cycle.
