Mechanism of Action:
In the alkaline environment of cementitious materials (pH 10–12), the alkyl alkoxy silane undergoes hydrolysis and condensation reactions:
Hydrolysis: Alkoxy groups (-OR) are hydrolyzed to silanol groups (-Si-OH)
Condensation: Silanol groups react with hydroxyl groups on the cement matrix, forming stable covalent bonds (Si-O-Si or Si-O-Ca)
Hydrophobic Effect: The alkyl chains orient outward from the surface, creating a hydrophobic barrier that repels liquid water while allowing water vapor transmission (breathable)

Typical Dosage:

Compatibility with water-retaining agents: Presence of additives based on water-retaining chemicals (e.g., methylcellulose, HPMC) may reduce the water repellent effect, requiring higher dosage

Mixing Instructions:
Dry blending: Mix BRB Siloen MXP5 with other dry components in any standard mixer used for producing finished powder products
Water addition: Add the dry mix containing BRB Siloen MXP5 to the required amount of water under stirring
Agitation: Maintain agitation for approximately 5 minutes to achieve homogeneous dispersion
Mixing considerations:
Too intensive machine stirring may lead to unwanted air entrapment
For hand mixing (lower shear force), stir, allow the mix to mature for a few minutes, and stir again
Hydrophobic effect: Water repellent properties become apparent when the mixes are totally dry
