Cachou Extract is soluble in hot water, methanol.
A natural Cachou Extract dyestuff and tanning agent obtained from the heartwood, leaves, pods and twigs of several trees, such as Acacia Cachou Extract or Uncaria gambier, that are native to southeast Asia and India.

Cutch was used in India since ancient times.
It was exported to Japan and China as early as the 1500s but was not used in Europe until the 1800s.
The primary colorant in cutch is Cachou Extract.
The dark brown to black, water extracted dye is sold as dried chunks or a coarse powder.
Cachou Extract colors wool, silk and cotton to a light brown color without a mordant (called khaki) and various shades of dark brown with a mordant.

Cachou Extract is an extract of acacia trees used variously as a food additive, astringent, tannin, and dye.
Cachou Extract is extracted from several species of Acacia, but especially Senegalia catechu (Acacia catechu), by boiling the wood in water and evaporating the resulting brew.
Cachou Extract is also known as cutch, black cutch, catechu, cashoo, terra Japonica, or Japan earth, and also katha in Hindi, kaath in Marathi, khoyer in Assamese and Bengali, and kachu in Malay (hence the Latinized Acacia catechu chosen as the

Linnaean taxonomy name of the type-species Acacia plant which provides the extract)
Cachou Extract (also known as cachou, cutch, cashoo or Japan earth) is an extract of any several species of Acacia by boiling water and evaporating the resulting brew.
Cachou Extract (called katha in Hindi, kachu in Malay, hence Latin Acacia catechu as the type species which provides the extract) is an astringent and has been used since ancient times in Ayurvedic medicine as well as in breath-freshening spice mixtures.

The mixture is high in natural vegetable tannins (which accounts for its astringent effect), and may be used for the tanning of animal hides.
Early research by Sir Humphrey Davy in the early 19th century first demonstrated the use of the Cachou Extract in tanning over more expensive and traditional oak extracts.
The composition of Cachou Extract had shown major components of terpene i.e. camphor (76.40%) and phytol (27.56%) along with other terpenes in minor amounts which are related with their high antibacterial and antifungal properties.

USES and APPLICATIONS of CACHOU EXTRACT:
-Textile Dyeing
-Astringents
-Face powder
-Hair dyeing agents
-Cosmetic and flavor agents
-Cosmetic Uses:    skin conditioning

-As an astringent Cachou Extract has been used since ancient times in Ayurvedic medicine as well as in breath-freshening spice mixtures—for example in France and Italy Cachou Extract is used in some licorice pastilles.
-Cachou Extract is also an important ingredient in South Asian cooking paan mixtures, such as ready-made paan masala and gutka.
-The Cachou Extract mixture is high in natural vegeltable tannins (which accounts for its astringent effect), and may be used for the tanning of animal hides.

-Early research by Humphry Davy in the early 19th century first demonstrated the use of catechu in tanning over more expensive and traditional oak extracts.
-Under the name cutch, Cachou Extract is a brown dye used for tanning and dyeing and for preserving fishing nets and sails.
Cutch will dye wool, silk, and cotton a yellowish-brown.
Cutch gives gray-browns with an iron mordant and olive-browns with a copper mordant.
