Carbon black is one of the varieties of carbon material, which is a highly dispersed black powder obtained by thermal decomposition or incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances, mainly hydrocarbons, in the temperature range from 1200 to 1700 ° C. The dispersion of carbon black is determined by the particle size. The indicator characterizing the dispersion is the specific surface area. Particles of carbon black have a rough surface, the measure of which is the ratio between the specific surface area of ​​carbon black and its iodine number. Depending on the raw material used and the method of its decomposition, the following production processes are distinguished: furnace, lamp, thermal, channel.

About 70% of the total produced volume of carbon black is used in the tire industry in the manufacture of automobile tires. About 20% is used in the production of rubbers and plastics as a reinforcing component. The rest comes from the printing industry and the paint and varnish industry.
