Carbon black is one of the varieties of carbon material, which is a highly dispersed black powder obtained by thermal decomposition or incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances, mainly hydrocarbons, in the temperature range from 1200 to 1700 ° C. The dispersion of carbon black is determined by the particle size. The indicator characterizing the dispersion is the specific surface area. Particles of carbon black have a rough surface, the measure of which is the ratio between the specific surface area of carbon black and its iodine number. Depending on the raw material used and the method of its decomposition, the following production processes are distinguished: furnace, lamp, thermal, channel.
About 70% of the total produced volume of carbon black is used in the tire industry in the manufacture of automobile tires. About 20% is used in the production of rubbers and plastics as a reinforcing component. The rest comes from the printing industry and the paint and varnish industry.
