DESCRIPTION
Castor oil (castor oil, castor oil, Latin Oleum Ricini)  is a unique vegetable oil from plants of the species Ricinus communis, a mixture of triglycerides of ricinoleic, linoleic and oleic acids. Its large share (90%) is made by glycerides of viscous ricinoleic acid, which contains only one unsaturated bond in a huge molecule.

Castor oil does not dissolve in water, does not oxidize in air, does not cover with a film and does not dry out. This set of unique properties determines the widespread use of castor oil in various industries, medicine, cosmetology, etc.

Transparent or slightly yellowish liquid, thick and viscous (freezing point = –16, flash point = 275 ° C). The smell is weak, the taste is peculiar, unpleasant.

Castor oil is used to obtain drying oils, alkyd and epoxy resins, alizarin oil. As a raw material for the production of motor lubricants and cutting fluids (cutting fluids).

As a lubricant, castor oil has a number of advantages over mineral oils: a wide range of operating temperatures, insolubility in petroleum products, non-toxic, non-corrosive towards most plastics. Besides its well-known medical uses, castor oil is used as a component in the cosmetic and food industries.
