Description

Cetostearyl Alcohol, also known as Cetearyl Alcohol, is a mixture of the long-chain saturated fatty alcohols cetyl alcohol (hexadecan-1-ol) and stearyl alcohol (octadecan-1-ol). The terms Cetostearyl Alcohol and Cetearyl Alcohol are chemically synonymous and are used interchangeably in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and industrial formulations. This multifunctional ingredient serves as an emollient, consistency regulator, viscosity enhancer, co-emulsifier, and stabilizing wax in numerous topical products.

Unlike volatile alcohols such as ethanol or isopropanol, Cetostearyl Alcohol is a waxy solid with excellent moisturizing and skin-conditioning properties. It contributes to the formation of stable oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, improves the rheological behavior of creams and lotions, enhances spreadability, and provides a rich, luxurious skin feel.
