CHINESE WOOD OIL

DESCRIPTION:

Chinese wood oil is a blend of the finest natural plant oils. 
Chinese wood oil provides a relatively hard surface finish that provides a water-resistant finish that is impervious to dust, alcohol, acetone, and various acids such as fruit and vegetable acids (orange juice).
Chinese wood oil is obtained from the seeds of a tropical tree—the Chinese wood.

DESCRIPTION:

Chinese wood oil is a member of the spurge family.
The seeds found in the centre of the tung fruit contain more than 50% Chinese wood oil, which is available when the seeds are ground and pressed. 
Chinese wood oil is amber coloured, and contains a high proportion of eleostearic acid.
Chinese wood oil was used as a preservative for wood ships. 

Chinese wood oil penetrates the wood, then hardens to form an impermeable hydrophobic layer up to 5 mm into the wood. 
As a preservative Chinese wood oil is effective for exterior work above and below ground, but the thin layer makes it less useful in practice.
Chinese wood oil obtained by pressing the seed from the nut of the Chinese wood. 
Chinese wood oil hardens upon exposure to air, resulting in a transparent and non-yellowing coating. Ideal for wood finishing and for the preparation of oil paints and inks.

APPLICATION:

-Using a lint free, cotton cloth, quality brush or "00" or "000" steel wool apply in the direction of the grain.
-Allow sufficient time for oil to penetrate into the grain becoming "tacky".
-Rub hard with the cotton cloth before the oil dries. Take care not to leave fragments in the finish.
-Apply as many coats as required to achieve the desired finish.
-May be used as filler when French Polishing.
