CYCAT 600 is a blocked sulfonic acid catalyst designed to provide controlled curing of amino resins such as melamine-formaldehyde systems in coating formulations.
CYCAT 600 remains inactive at room temperature and becomes active only at elevated curing temperatures, ensuring excellent storage stability and extended pot life.

This delayed activation allows improved processing control, better flow, and smoother film formation.

CYCAT 600 can be used in food contact applications.

CYCAT 600 is a specialized component within the CASE Ingredients' additives range, primarily serving as a catalyst.
Tailored for specific segments, it's particularly relevant for applications in the automotive and transportation sectors, including marine coatings and finishes.
Designed for compatibility with metals, this catalyst is integral for clearcoat and enamel coating types.

CYCAT 600 may be used in alkyd enamels with low levels of alcohols that exhibit excellent package stability.
When fully alkylated crosslinking agents such as CYMEL 303 resin are used, an acid catalyst is necessary toobtain maximum film properties with most resin systems.

Some acid catalysts formerly used in such systems were not soluble in hydrocarbon solvents, making it necessary to incorporate high levels of alcohols or other oxygenated solvents to assure catalyst solubility.
The following examples illustrate the savings possible compared with an enamel containing a conventional butylated melamine resin.

Applications of CYCAT 600:
CYCAT 600 is used in industrial coating formulations as a blocked acid catalyst for controlled curing of amino resins.
CYCAT 600 is widely applied in automotive coatings, including clear coats and topcoats, where high durability and surface quality are required.

CYCAT 600 is used in coil coatings for metal sheets, providing uniform curing and excellent film appearance.
CYCAT 600 is suitable for can coatings, offering good chemical resistance and adhesion in packaging applications.
CYCAT 600 is also used in general industrial coatings and appliance finishes, where extended pot life and controlled curing behavior are important.

Applications Area:
Automotive topcoats
Can coatings
General industrial coatings

Special Properties and Uses of CYCAT 600:
CYCAT 600 is a liquid, organic acid catalyst recommended to accelerate crosslinking of amino resins with polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl or amide functionality.
CYCAT 600 is soluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, alcohols, glycol ethers and water.
CYCAT 600 may be used as a replacement for less soluble acid catalysts, such as toluene sulfonic acid, in low alcohol-containing finishes.

In typical alkyd/amino baking enamels made with CYMEL 303 hexamethoxymethylmelamine, 0.5 % (based on total resin solids) of CYCAT 600 is usually sufficient for normal baking schedules.
Since CYCAT 600 is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, it is possible, using CYMEL 303 resin, to formulate finishes with low levels of alcohol, using small amounts of amines to stabilize the systems.
