CYLINK NMA  is a cross-linking monomer with a polymerizable vinyl group and hydroxymethyl functionality.
CYLINK NMA provides mechanical strength and solvent resistance.
CYLINK NMA is used in latex adhesives.

CYLINK NMA is a bi-functional monomer with a polymerizable vinyl and hydroxymethyl functionality.
CYLINK NMA is used in emulsion polymerization to produce latex binders for nonwoven, textile, adhesives, surface coatings, paper coatings and resins for varnishes.

CYLINK NMA monomer has earned a reputation in the textile, non-woven and adhesives industries as a cost-effective, high performance self-crosslinking monomer available for the production of binders which provide high solvent resistance, wetstrength, and adhesive properties.
CYLINK NMA monomer, however, does release some formaldehydeas part of the crosslinking mechanism.

CYLINK NMA-LF monomer is specifically designed to provide effective self-crosslinking performance together with a significant reduction in both the formaldehyde present in the resulting emulsion polymer and the formaldehyde released to the environment upon curing.
CYLINK NMA-LF monomer combines the cost-effectiveness of CYLINK NMA monomer with a dramatic reduction in total formaldehyde.

The active self-crosslinking species of CYLINK NMA-LF and CYLINK NMA monomers is N-methylolacrylamide(NMA).
NMA contains both a vinyl group and an N-methylol group.
The vinyl group is reactive and enables the NMA to be readily incorporated into a variety of the polymer backbones.
Once incorporated into thepolymer, the methylol group can be triggered to undergo crosslinking with itself, other functional groups in thepolymer (such as hydroxyls or amines), or with cellulosic substrates.
The bifunctional feature of NMA ultimately results in latex binders which provide important performance properties to the final product, such as wet strength, tear strength, and solvent resistance.
The manner in which CYLINK NMA monomer is believed to self-crosslink.
The key feature of this process is the elimination of formaldehyde as the NMA undergoes crosslinking to form the methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA) bridge.
In contrast, CYLINK NMA-LFmonomer’s proprietary formulation provides an alternative route to the identical MBA crosslink but with a significant reduction in the formaldehyde.

The physical properties of the resulting latex films were evaluated and are comparable in most aspects, including particle size, coagulum, and viscosity.
One significant difference is that the films made using CYLINK NMA-LF monomer show a 75% reduction in the residual level of formaldehyde in the latex.

CYLINK NMA is a bifunctional monomer with reactive vinyl and hydroxymethyl groups.
Thermoplastic polymers can be formed by copolymerization of N-methylolacrylamide with a variety of vinyl monomers by emulsion, solution and suspension techniques.
The resulting products, which have pendant hydroxymethyl groups, can undergo cross-linking under moderate conditions, permitting conversion of thermoplastic backbone polymers to thermoset materials at the point of use in the absence of an external cross-linking agent.
Conversely, the hydroxymethyl group can be reacted with a substrate like cellulose and subsequently cross-linked by free-radical polymerization.

The uses of CYLINK NMA range from adhesives and binders in papermaking and textiles to a variety of surface coatings and resins for varnishes, films and sizing agents.
CYLINK NMA can be used in wet-strength and dry-strength agents for paper, in textile finishing agents for crease resistance, in antistatic agents, in dispersing agents, in cross-linking agents and in emulsion polymers.

CYLINK NMA is a white crystalline substance.
CYLINK NMA is sold both as a powder and as an aqueous solution (48%).
Aqueous solutions contain acrylamide (less than 5%) and formaldehyde (less than 2% or less than 0.5%).
In aqueous solutions of CYLINK NMA, an inhibitor such as copper ions and air is used to prevent polymerization.
