DHHB

CAS NO:302776-68-7
EC NO:100.103.916

DHHB (INCI) is an organic compound used in sunscreens to absorb UVA radiation.
DHHB is marketed as Uvinul A Plus, DHHB has an absorption maximum of 354 nm.

DHHB has excellent photostability and compatibility with other UV absorbers and other cosmetic ingredients.
DHHB has been approved for the use in sunscreens in the European Union since 2005 with a maximum of 10 per cent and is also approved in South America, Mexico, Japan and Taiwan. In the United States it can be used for product protection.

Properties
Chemical formula        C24H31NO4
Molar mass        397.515 g·mol−1

DHHB is a new generation, chemical sunscreen agent (not available in the US due to impossible FDA regulations) that's designed for high UVA protection and high photostability.
DHHB gives sun protection in the whole UVA range (320-400 nm) with peak protection at 354nm.
DHHB can be used up to 10% worldwide except for the US and Canada.

DHHB is a UV filter with high absorption in the UV-A range. Minimizing the overexposure of human skin to ultraviolet radiation that may lead to acute and chronic photodamage, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate is an oil-soluble UV filter that may be incorporated in the oil phase of emulsions.
DHHB was approved in Europe in 2005, and is also marketed in the U.S., South America, Mexico, Japan and Taiwan.
DHHB has a chemical structure similar to the classical benxophoenone drug class, and displays good photostability.
DHHB is used in concentrations up to 10% in sunscreen products, either alone or in combination with other UV absorbers.

DHHB is a member of benzophenones.

DHHB is an organic UV filter that attenuates the exposure of UV radiation on human skin. In vitro, topical application of diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate exerted an anti-inflammatory effect on inflammation-evoked mouse ears by inhibiting oedema formation

DHHB is classified as :
Uv filter

DHHB is very photostable and provides strong UVA protection.
DHHB also has good solubility, excellent formula flexibility, and good compatibility with other UV filters and cosmetic ingredients.
DHHB provides excellent free radicals protection and is ideal for long-lasting sun care and anti-aging face care products.

Its functions (INCI)
UV filter: Allows you to filter certain UV rays in order to protect the skin or hair from the harmful effects of these rays.
Stabilizer: Improves ingredients or formulation stability and shelf life
UV Absorbent: Protects the cosmetic product against the effects of UV light

DHHB is a photostable UV-A absorber.

DHHB (DHHB) absorbs UV-A radiation with a peak at 354 nm. The molar absorption coefficient of DHHB in EtOH at 25°C is obtained to be 39 000 mol/dm3/cm at 354 nm. The emission spectrum of DHHB in EtOH is dependent on the excitation wavelength.

Molecular weight: 397.52
Formula: C24H31NO4
CLOGP: 7.08

DHHB is used in expensive high-end sunscreens due to its high efficiency. And it is very stable in terms of UVA protection.
DHHB is recommended only in sunscreen products used on the face. Due to the high price If the sunscreen used on the skin Instead, use high amounts of Zinc Oxide to protect against UVA rays, as they are less expensive. Although the nature of the product (May be white - difficult to spread - has a chance of separation) is not equivalent to DHHB does not cause white. Creamy texture, easy to spread And easy to mix, no separation problem

Summary of features of DHHB

- DHHB is an organic sunscreen that can block UVA well and is highly stable. Even under sunlight There is no need to use another sunscreen in the formulation to improve stability. Unlike Avobenzone Which, although it is good UVA proof, but is not stable A combination of other sunscreens is needed to improve stability.

 - DHHB can be used in conjunction with Physical Sunscreen such as Zinc Oxide Or Titanium Dioxide Without affecting the stability Unlike Avobenzone That cannot be used in conjunction with Zinc Oxide , Titanium Dioxide and OMC Yes, because it will result in Avobenzone Lack of stability This makes it very limited to increasing the SPF and PA formulas, as there is a limit to the selection of other ingredients that can help increase the SPF and PA. OMC Which is a very effective UVB sunscreen

 - Although unable to block UVB light, but when used together with other organic UVB sunscreen groups It can help to increase the SPF (the protection of UVB light) even more.

DHHB is a very effective UVB specific sunscreen.

Used as a shield against UVA radiation and skin damage. Also has high photo-stability and high formulation flexibility.
Use: UV FILTER

DHHB Usage

DHHB ’s function played in sunscreen products include:

1)With high absorption effect on UVA
2)With strong protective effect for free radical produced by UV.
3)Enhance the SPF value of UVB sunscreen

With very good light stability, maintain effectiveness for long time DHHB  defilade of UV range covered the whole UVA, from 320 to 400 nm wavelength, the maximum absorption peak is at 354 nm. So for the shielding, DHHB has the same effect as the current best sunscreen Avobenzone.
However, DHHB ’s stability in the sun is much better than Avobenzone, because Avobenzone’s ability to absorb ultraviolet radiation will quickly reduce in the sun. Therefore in the formula you need to add other UV absorber as a light stabilizer, in order to reduce the loss of Avobenzone. And it is not necessary to worry about this problem when using DHHB .

DHHB  instead of Avobenzone, become a model UVA sunscreen agent, with better light stability than Avobenzone, do not need to add Sunsafe- MBC, SUNSAFE – OMC compound, lower cost, better effect.

DHHB  is an effective UVA and UVB filter UV-A radiation (320-400nm) is linked with the loss of skin elasticity, wrinkling and premature aging, whilst the more powerful UV-B radiation (290-320nm) is linked to sunburn, cell damage and cancer risk. Chem DHBT is solvent soluble, used for incorporation in wide range of sunscreen, skin care, personal care products

DHHB, is a substituted benzophenone used as a UV filter in sunscreens. While the benzophenone structural unit is responsible for UV absorption, the hydrophobic substituents ensure oil solubility and water resistance in dermatological and cosmetic preparations.
DHHB has a relatively broad UV absorption spectrum (in the range 340-400 nm) with an absorption maximum λmax in the UV-A range at 354 nm.
DHHB can be combined with other UV absorbers (Kawakami CM et al. 2017). In dermal preparations DHHB does not penetrate intact skin but remains in the outer layer (stratum corneum - T. Haque JM et al. 2016). The allergenic potential is negligible. The biodegradability of diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate is considered critical in surface waters.

Function of DHHB

1.DHHB can be used as a photo initiator in UV-curing applications such as inks, imaging, and clear coatings in the printing industry.

2.DHHB Prevents ultraviolet (UV) light from damaging scents and colors in products such as perfumes and soaps.

3.DHHB can also be added to the plastic packaging as a UV blocker. Its use allows manufacturers to package the product in clear glass or plastic. Without it, opaque or dark packaging would be required.
