Dicyandiamde (DICY) combines strong alkalinity and water solubility with white crystalline properties, scientifically named as cyanoguanidine.
Chemically, it is mainly the dimer of cyanamide or cyanoguanidine, used primarily in melamine production.

Dicyandiamde, an amide of normal cyanic acid, is a white crystal that melts at 45°C.
Dicyandiamde can be found in water, alcohol, and diethyl ether.
Commercially, it is prepared from carbide process of calcium carbide, derived carbonate, or sulfur removal of carbide by catalytic (mercuric oxide) discharge.

Dicyandiamde spans an array of cyanogen halides with ammonia.
Upon heating at 150°C, dicyanodiamide polymerizes to melamine with disiamyldiamine and tricyantriamide.

Dicyandiamide, commonly known as DICY, has long been used in coatings, single-pack adhesives, film adhesives, and more. However, it is challenging to dissolve in epoxy resin.
Dicyandiamde has been reported that dicyandiamide can be dissolved in epoxy resin with a solvent, but even after being converted into a powder, heated, mixed on a triple roll, or processed by an extruder, it is still mixed with epoxy resin.
Usually, Dicyandiamde lacks an accelerator mixture, and the application time is over six months.

The curing mechanism of dicyandiamide is more complex, with cyano having reactivity in addition to the four active hydrogens in the reaction. Furthermore, dicyandiamide also functions as a catalytic curing agent. For E-51 epoxy resin, while the theoretical dosage of dicyandiamide is 11 g per gram of resin, the actual dosage is 4~10 g, especially for solid epoxy resins.

In the leather industry, it fills void spaces such as the edges of leather pieces.

The application of nitrification inhibitors, widely used nitrification inhibitor Dicyandiamide (DCD), inhibits the activity of ammonium-oxidizing bacteria, leading to longer ammonium retention and reduced production.
Studies have shown that the leaching of DCD from agricultural soils to aquatic ecosystems can strongly alter the community composition of benthic stream bacteria and algae and may impact the stoichiometry of stream nutrient cycling.
While there is extensive literature on the mechanisms and benefits of nitrification inhibitors, there are few studies focusing on the effects of DCD application on other microbes in the rice paddy system.

The solution is then polymerized under alkaline conditions at a temperature of 74°C.
