DIMETHICONE OIL

Dimethicone Oil usually refers to linear polysiloxane products that maintain liquid state at room temperature.
Dimethicone Oil is generally divided into methyl silicone oil and modified silicone oil.
The most commonly used Dimethicone Oil - methyl silicone oil, also known as ordinary silicone oil, whose organic groups are all methyl, has good chemical stability, insulation and hydrophobic properties.

CAS Number : 9006-65-9
EC  Number : 618-433-4
Molecular Formula :  6H14OSi
Average mass      :  130.260 Da

Dimethicone Oil is prepared by hydrolysis of dimethyl dichlorosilane with water to obtain the initial polycondensation ring.
The ring is cracked and rectified to obtain the low ring.
Then the ring, sealing agent and catalyst are put together to obtain a mixture of different polymerization degrees.
Dimethicone Oil can be prepared by vacuum distillation to remove the low boiling matter.

Appearance and viscosity of Dimethicone Oil
Dimethicone Oil is generally colorless (or light yellow), odorless, non-toxic and non-volatile liquid.
Dimethicone Oil is insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol and 2-ethoxyethanol.
Dimethicone Oil can be miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene, and slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and butanol.

Dimethicone Oil has low vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition point, and low freezing point.
With the different number of chain segments n, the molecular weight increases and the viscosity also increases.
Dimethicone Oil can have different viscosities, from 0.65 centistokes to millions of centistokes.
If low viscosity Dimethicone Oil is to be prepared, acidic clay can be used as catalyst, and the polymerization can be carried out at 180 ℃, or sulfuric acid can be used as catalyst, and the polymerization can be carried out at low temperature.
Alkaline catalyst can be used to produce high viscosity Dimethicone Oil or viscous substances.

Features of Dimethicone Oil
Dimethicone Oil has heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertia and small surface tension.
In addition, Dimethicone Oil also has low viscosity-temperature coefficient, high compressibility, and some varieties also have radiation resistance.
The application range of Dimethicone Oil are very wide.
Dimethicone Oil is not only used as a special material in aviation, cutting-edge technology and military technology departments, but also used in various sectors of the national economy. Its application range has been expanded to: construction, electronic and electrical, textile, automobile, machinery, leather and paper, chemical and light industry, metal and paint, medicine and medical treatment, etc.
The main applications of Dimethicone Oil and its derivatives are demolding agent, shock absorber oil, dielectric oil, hydraulic oil, heat transfer oil, diffusion pump oil, defoamer, lubricant, hydrophobic agent, paint additive, polishing agent, cosmetics and daily necessities additive, surfactant, particle and fiber treatment agent, silicone grease and flocculant.

Dimethicone Oil Usage
Colorless, transparent, non-toxic and odorless oily substance.
Dimethicone Oil has excellent electrical insulation and heat resistance, high flash point and low freezing point.
Dimethicone Oil can be used for a long time in the temperature range of -50℃~+200℃.
The specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are small.
Widely used as insulating lubrication, shockproof, dustproof oil, dielectric fluid and heat carrier, defoaming, mold release agent, paint and daily chemical additives.

Dimethicone Oil offers natural lubrication, adding more slip and glide to cosmetics, reducing tackiness on the skin and a sticky feeling in hair, improving hair’s softness and reduces frizziness even in high humidity.
Dimethicone Oil also helps to create a protective barrier on the skin, helping to protect it from harsh outside elements such as heat, sun damage and cold winds, as well as things such as free radicals.
As this silicone possesses natural emolliency, it is an excellent addition to cosmetics such as conditioners, lotions and moisturisers as well as other leave-on and rinse-off applications.

Popularly called the ‘chemist’s swiss army knife’ Dimethicone Oil is a man-made silicone-based polymer that is synthesized from silicones extracted from quartz.
Dimethicone Oil is hard to miss on the labels of products because of its vast expanse of use.
Dimethicone Oil enhances the properties of the ingredients and the formulations it is added to and makes their application more pleasing.

BENEFITS AND USES of Dimethicone Oil
Its application brings immense benefits to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
Dimethicone Oil is thick and thin of most products like shampoos, soaps, conditioners, makeup products like primers, foundations, and it is used in antiperspirants, aftershave lotions, and shaving creams.
Dimethicone Oil is non-comedogenic, therefore it helps improve the skin barrier and protects it from environmental damage.
Dimethicone Oil prevents moisture loss from skin and hair and keeps it hydrated and frizz-free.
When utilized in various formulations as a base ingredient, it works as an anti-foaming agent.
Additionally, Dimethicone Oil is used in the manufacturing of rubbery caulks, adhesives, sealants, and water-repelling wall coatings.

CONCENTRATION AND SOLUBILITY of Dimethicone Oil
