Dipentene is one of nature's original natural solvents, extracted from the peel of citrus during the juicing process.
Dipentene is 100% bio-based, environmentally friendly, and has a GRAS (generally recognized as safe) rating, making Dipentene safe to be used in a wide range of products.
Dipentene is a monoterpene olefin having potential applications in polymer and fuel chemistry.

Dipentene, is a terpene liquid found in various volatile oils such as cardamon, mace, nutmeg , turpentine oil.
Dipentene is mainly composed of Limonene, beta-Phellandrene, Myrcene and other terpenes.
A broader range of solvent power for both polar and non-polar soils compared to citrus D-limonene

Dipentene has a typical pine woody scent.
Dipentene is mostly obtained from pine tree essential oils.
Dipentene is obtained from citrus peels.
DL-Limonene usually is known as dipentene.

Commercially Dipentene is a mixture of DL-Limonene and various other terpene hydrocarbons obtained from pine tree essential oils with a pine woody scent.
Dipentene comprises 90%-100% terpene hydrocarbons, mainly DL-Limonene, as well as several of its isomers (eg. Terpinolenes, Terpinenes, and beta-Phellandrene).
In terms of structures, most isomers of dl-Limonene enhance the solvency for non-polar soils, so compared to D-limonene, dipentene has a broader range of solvent power.

The Hansen Solubility Parameters of dipentene is still close to D-Limonene due to the similarity of the structures of isomers, which means there is no need to significantly change the cleaner formulations.
Dipentene has a relatively high solvent power.
The relatively solvent power could be measured by KB Value.

The higher the KB Value, the stronger solvent power a chemical has. Dipentene has a relatively high KB Value of around 60~100 (depending on the compositions), enabling Dipentene to penetrate and lift even the heaviest of oil stains and spills quickly and safely.
Dipentene can replace many traditional solvents such as fluorinated and chlorinated organic solvents, acetone, MEK(methyl ethyl ketone, mineral spirits, glycol ethers, toluene and etc.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS of DIPENTENE:
In nature, Dipentene is formed from the molecule geranyl pyrophosphate, via cyclization of a neryl carbocation or its equivalent.
In the final step, the C=C double bond is formed through the loss of a proton from the carbocation.
Commercially, dipentene is obtained from citrus fruits through the process of steam distillation and centrifugal separation.
Commonly, orange oil is extracted as a by-product of orange juice production by centrifugation.

The orange oil obtained composes greater than 90% of D-limonene. Further separation takes place via steam distillation, where steam is passed through the orange oil to distill dipentene.
Dipentene is relatively stable and can be distilled without decomposition, but at elevated temperatures, it cracks to form isoprene.
Dipentene extracted is commonly D-limonene, but at 300°C it racemizes to dipentene.

BENEFITS of DIPENTENE:

-A cyclic Terpene
-Disolve anhydrous ethanol, ether, chloroform and other organic solvents and insoluble in water
