Dipropylene Glycol n-Propyl Ether (DPnP) is a colorless liquid with an ether-like odor that evaporates slowly. It is used as a solvent and as a coalescent for water-borne latex coatings. It is
a component of cleaning formulations and of household and personal care products from which occupational and consumer exposure is likely.

Solvent is a colorless liquid with low toxicity and a low odor. Its low evaporation rate coupled with its hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature makes Glycol Ether DPnP a good coupling agent and solvent. It is moderately water soluble, yet an efficient surface tension reducer.

Coatings 

Glycol Ether DPnP performs well in coatings applications as a coalescent for waterborne coatings and a solvent for solvent-borne coatings. Glycol Ether DPnP blends well with other materials such as the more hydrophobic glycol ethers. Overall it makes an excellent choice as a coalescing agent and it makes a good viscosity control agent. 

Cleaners 

Low toxicity, surface tension reduction, and moderate evaporation are some of the benefits of using Glycol Ether DPnP in cleaning formulations. It also provides good solvency for polar and non- polar materials. 

Other Applications 

The properties of Glycol Ether DPnP also support its use in agricultural, electronic, inks, textile, sealants and adhesive products. Specific end uses may require approval from governing regulatory agencies. General industry practice is to store Glycol Ether DPnP in carbon steel vessels. Avoid contact with air when storing for long periods of time. Glycol ethers should never be stored or handled in copper or copper alloys. This product may absorb water if exposed to air. Store only in tightly closed, properly vented containers away from heat, sparks, open flame or strong oxidizing agents. Use only non-sparking tools. Ground containers before beginning transfer. Electrical equipment should conform to national electric code.

Material Compatibility Guidelines

Stainless steel is recommended for valves, pumps and filters. Teflon is suitable for gaskets. Information from material suppliers and specific conditions of contact should be considered in the selection of suitable materials.

Dipropylene glycol n-propyl ether (DPnP) is a propylene oxide-based or P-series, glycol ether with non-toxic and hygroscopic nature. The P-series glycol ethers are significantly gaining market share due to their lower toxicity levels compared to the E-series glycol ethers. This factor has thus promoted their usage with its compliance to multiple regional regulations.

DPnP glycol ether has a slower evaporation rate than  PnP glycol ether, and it is slightly more hydrophobic. Yet overall, DPnP glycol ether has a near-midrange balance between hydrophobic and hydrophilic character, and it offers significant water solubility. This product is a good choice in coatings; it offers very good coalescing performance in blends with more hydrophobic materials such as PPh or PnB glycol ethers. DPnP glycol ether can also be blended with other materials to replace Butyl glycol ether (formerly known as glycol ether).

Cleaning Area 
A drycleaning method is occured. In the method, a composition that comprises dipropylene glycol n-propyl ether (DPnP) and is essentially free of siloxanes or polysulfonic acids is used. The composition contains at least about 80 wt. % DPnP and up to about 15 wt. % of water. The method enables superior stain removal while avoiding excessive fabric shrinkage or soil redeposition.
