Glycol Ether EPH is a colorless liquid with a mild odor and an organic chemical compound that is slow to evaporate. It is a solvent that can be used for a wide variety of applications. It has high polymer solvency and excellent coalescing abilities making it a great chemical used for cosmetics, cleaners, and textiles.

Phenoxyethanol is a germicidal and germistatic glycol ether, phenol ether, and aromatic alcohol often used together with quaternary ammonium compounds.

Aromatic, slow-evaporating glycol ether that has a variety of uses, such as a solvent in printing inks, carrier solvent for textile dyes, coalescent for latex adhesives, and fixative for perfumes​. The advantage of this product are favorable environmental profile, superior performance for end use applications, formulations may require less Performance solvent than P or E Series. Phenoxyethanol is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. It is a glycol ether used as a perfume fixative, insect repellent, antiseptic, solvent, preservative, and also as an anesthetic in fish aquaculture. Phenoxyethanol is an ether alcohol with aromatic properties. It is both naturally found and manufactured synthetically. Demonstrating antimicrobial ability, phenoxyethanol acts as an effective preservative in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and lubricants. Phenoxyethanol (EU), or PE, is the most commonly used globally-approved preservative in personal care formulations. It is very easy to use in various types of formulations and is chemically stable. Phenoxyethanol is a colorless, clear, oily liquid with a faint aromatic odor at room temperature and a low water solubility and evaporation rate. It is produced by reacting phenol (EU) and ethylene oxide (EU) at a high temperature and pressure. This substance occurs naturally in green tea (EU). According to the European Union Cosmetics Regulation (EC) n.1223/2009, phenoxyethanol is authorized as a preservative in cosmetic formulations at a maximum concentration of 1.0%. Phenoxyethanol has been classified as an antimicrobial and preservative by Health Canada. It has also been used in vaccines and shown to inactivate bacteria, and several types of yeast. DOWANOL EPh GLYCOL ETHER is an aromatic, slow-evaporating glycol ether. It can be used in dyeing synthetic fibers, both as a dye solubilizer and as a dye carrier. DOWANOL™ EPh Glycol Ether by Dow Chemical acts as a solvent. Used in printing inks and latex coalescent in water-based coatings. Compatible with nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose and many vinyl, phenolic, alkyd, and ester-type resins in water-based coatings. Offers coalescing ability and high polymer solvency. Provides low evaporation rate. DOWANOL™ EPh Glycol Ether is used in architectural and industrial coatings and printing inks.

DOWANOL EPh GLYCOL ETHER is also a very efficient coalescing agent. It finds additional uses in cosmetics and cleaning products. It is effective in the formulation of homogeneous, stable metalworking fluids. Uses:

Phenoxyethanol is used as a perfume fixative; an insect repellent; an antiseptic; a solvent for cellulose acetate, dyes, inks, and resins; a preservative for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and lubricants; an anesthetic in fish aquaculture; and in organic synthesis.

Phenoxyethanol is an alternative to formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. In Japan and the European Union, its concentration in cosmetics is restricted to 1%

Applications:

KL-EPH is generally used as the solvent, and improving agent for paints, printing ink, and ballpoint ink, as well as theinfiltrating and bactericide in the detergents, and film-forming aids for water-based coatings. As a dyeing solvent, it can improve the solubility of the PVC plasticizer, the properties that enable the cleaning of printed circuit board and surface treatment of plastic, and become an ideal solvent for methyl hydroxybenzoate. It is an ideal preservative in pharmaceuticals and cosmetic industry. It is used as an anesthetic and fixative for perfume. It is as an extractor in petroleum industry. Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetic products and also as a stabilizer in perfumes and soaps.[1]  Exposure to phenoxyethanol has been linked to reactions ranging from eczema[2] to severe, life-threatening allergic reactions.[3] Infant oral exposure to phenoxyethanol can acutely affect nervous system function.[4]

WHAT IS PHENOXYETHANOL? Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetic products to limit bacterial growth. A review of 43 cosmetic products demonstrated that only 25 percent of the products had concentrations of phenoxyethanol greater than 0.6 percent and the mean concentration of phenoxyethanol was 0.46 percent.[5] Phenoxyethanol is also used as to stabilize components found in perfumes and soaps.[6]

 

 

 

REGULATIONS: The European Economic Community (EEC) Cosmetics Derivative[13] and the Cosmetics Regulation of the European Union approved phenoxyethanol in concentrations up to one percent. [14]
