A fast-evaporating, hydrophobic glycol ether with high solvency and excellent coupling abilities. 
DOWANOL PNB is partly water soluble and miscible with most organic solvents. This is extensively used in heavy-duty cleaning formulations.

DOWANOL PNB is a propylene glycol n-butyl ether. Acts as an effective coupling agent and efficient solvent for water-reducible coatings, effective coalescent for lowering the minimum film forming temperature in water-borne latex coatings, and active solvent for solvent-based coatings. Offers very good solvency and oil solubility. Provides effective surfactant properties. Possesses very good coupling ability and evaporation rate control. Exhibits greater formulating flexibility and low viscosity. 
DOWANOL PNB is used in latex coatings.

DOWANOL PNB is a colorless combustible liquid with an ether-like odor. 
DOWANOL PNB has low water solubility and good coupling and demonstrates good solvency for coating resins. The properties of PNB support its use in agricultural, coating, cleaning, ink, textile and adhesive products. 
DOWANOL PNB is a good substitute for ethylene glycol ethers including EB

Coatings: DOWANOL PNB can be used as a coalescent with various resins including Acrylics, Styrene-Acrylics, and Polyvinylacetates. 
DOWANOL PNB has superior film forming characteristics.

Cleaners: DOWANOL PNB has a moderate odor, good coupling ability, and good surface tension lowering in water-based cleaners. 
DOWANOL PNB is compatible with a wide range of cleaning components. 
DOWANOL PNB is also partially water soluble and the water solubility can be increased by adding low molecular weight alcohols or other propylene glycol ethers.
