N-Oleyl-1,3-propanediamine (or (Z)-N-9-octadecenylpropane-1,3-diamine or N′-octadec-9-enylpropane-1,3-diamine) is an organic chemical compound, with a summary formula C21H44N2, relative molecular mass of 324.597.

The AkzoNobel product is called Duomeen OL.

Under standard conditions, it is a yellow liquid with an ammoniacal odour, density of 0.841 g/cm3, melting point of about 12 °C, pour point 18 °C, boiling point 300 °C.

Duomeen O is a fatty diamine (a polyamine), used as a catalyst for urethanes and epoxies, surfactant (e.g., in gasoline), emulsifier (for asphalt, car undercoatings), ore flotation agent, an anti-settling agent or a dispersant (e.g., in paints), as anti-fouling or anti-scaling additive, as a corrosion inhibitor, in adhesives, as a lubricant (weaker than soaps but relatively insensitive to cationic impurities), in sealants, as a processing aid and an intermediate.
In some applications, its bacteriostatic properties are of value.

The product is not susceptible to corrosion in the presence of ferrous metals.
Containers made from them or HDPE can be used.
Fiberglass lined containers are also suitable.
Do not use zinc, copper, aluminum and their alloys.
Contact with LDPE, PVC and most rubbers should be avoided due to the risk of cracking and swelling of these materials.

For color stability, the product should be stored below or, in the case of bulk storage, slightly above the melting point.
Higher temperatures are acceptable if color retention is not important.
However, the maximum recommended surface temperature for a heated coil is 100 ° C.
Long periods of storage in air when heated may cause discoloration and decomposition.
Heated storage containers should be sealed (using a drain tube) and stored preferably under nitrogen.

If the product is handled at temperatures below or above the melting point, there is a risk of delamination.
In such cases, the entire amount of product should be heated until it melts and homogenizes.

The acetate salts of the product are converted to substituted amides with low water solubility when heated at temperatures above 55 ° C.
In processes requiring heating, exposure temperature and time should be kept to a minimum.

Even at normal temperatures, amines can absorb carbon dioxide and water from the atmosphere.
Absorbed carbon dioxide and moisture can be removed by heating the product above 100 ° C.

The product is removed from hard surfaces with hot water under pressure.
For more severe deposits it may be necessary to use high pressure steam or a 3% hot acetic acid wash.

Care must be taken when handling the product.
Protective clothing, gloves and goggles should be used to avoid injury.
Avoid contact with skin and inhalation of vapours.
