E 173

E 173

E173 is a natural metal food additive approved by the European Union (EU).
E173 is sometimes used as a colouring agent in food and drink products.

The common name for E173 is aluminium, i.e. the chemical element aluminium.

E173 is a silver / grey metal that tends to be used as a metallic surface coating.
E173 is also used in many other food-related applications, such as for food-wrap foils, and even in part of water purification processes (incl. e.g. to assist in removing contaminants and other harmful micro-organisms from a raw water source.).

Physical and Chemical Properties

E173 is silver-white scaly powder, with excellent hiding power, floating property, opaque to light, reflective ability to ultraviolet rays, heat dissipation effect on heat energy irradiated by sunlight, and good weather resistance, it has excellent corrosion and water resistance properties, and is currently the most widely used metal pigment.
Because the E173 is easy to fly and spread, it is very inconvenient to use, and the aluminum silver paste and solvent oil are usually made into aluminum powder slurry.
Aluminum powder paste, generally containing about 65% of aluminum powder.
E173 is silver-white scaly powder.
The relative density is 2.55.
Melting point 685 °c.
Boiling point 2065 °c.
Due to the adsorption of fatty acids on the surface of aluminum powder, E173 is easy to float in the liquid.
Flake aluminum powder particles, the ratio of the diameter and thickness of the sheet is about 100:1, and the aluminum powder dispersed in the carrier has the characteristics of parallel with the low material, many particles are connected, the sizes of the particles fill each other to form a continuous metal film, which reflects foreign light and has excellent hiding power.
The continuous metal film formed by aluminum powder can be arranged in parallel at multiple levels in the carrier film, cutting off the capillary pores of the film-forming material, thus playing a good shielding role.
It has the ability to reflect ultraviolet, infrared and visible light, and has the effect of heat dissipation on sunlight irradiation.
Aluminum pigment has a good "two-color effect" characteristics.
Good weather resistance.
Soluble in acid or alkali, and acid reaction will produce hydrogen.

Uses
E173 is used in paint, ink, fireworks, explosives and other industries, also used as Air entraining agent for porous concrete
E173 is used in the manufacture of anti-corrosion, anti-rust coatings, high temperature resistant coatings, decorative coatings, because these coatings have good ability to emit light and heat, and good weather resistance, they are widely used for surface coating of oil tanks, storage tanks, ship bottoms and heating equipment.
E173 is an inorganic pigment.
E173 is mainly used in the manufacture of anti-rust aluminum paint.
E173 is widely used for anti-rust coating on the surface of chemical equipment.
In addition, E173 can also be used for the manufacture of a variety of fireworks, fireworks and pesticide size.

E 173 - Nature
E173 is a white ductile metal.
Melting Point: 660. 37 ℃;
Boiling Point: 2467 ℃;
Relative density: 102. Soluble in alkali, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, insoluble in water, concentrated nitric acid, hot acetic acid.
Good conductor for heat and electricity.
E173 has better conductivity, ductility, reflectivity and corrosion resistance than the original aluminum.
Mixing E173 with an oxidizing agent can form an explosive mixture.
With fluorine, chlorine, etc. can occur intense chemical reaction.

E 173 - Preparation Method
with high quality refined aluminum as raw material, high purity aluminum products were prepared by directional solidification and purification.
Alternatively, high-purity E173 is obtained by electrolysis, the anode is an alloy of coarse aluminum and copper, and the cathode is high-purity aluminum.
When electrolysis is carried out in an electrolytic bath containing aluminum ions, 99 is precipitated at the cathode.
More than 99% of the high purity aluminum, the electrolysis temperature is about 750.

E 173 - Use
E173 has many excellent properties, in the electronic industry, automotive, aerospace, chemical, military and other fields have a wide range of applications.
Semiconductor Manufacturing sputtering target materials, superconducting cable stabilization materials, super alloy necessary elements for the manufacture of aluminum mirrors, magnetic suspension material, high-performance wires, integrated circuit bonding wire, optoelectronic storage media, such as CD, CD-ROM, CD-RW, data or Micro disk, DVD silver disk, etc.
It is also the blade material of the aerospace engine and the missile launch engine.
The use of high purity aluminum in the field of electronic aluminum foil accounts for about 70% of the consumption of high purity aluminum, and other uses account for about 30%.

To produce E173 commercially, bauxite is extracted and purified and electrolysis to take place in molten cryolite.

Examples of food and drink products that sometimes include E173:

E173 or aluminum is a chemical element with symbol Al and atomic number 13.
E173 is a silvery-white, soft, nonmagnetic and ductile metal in the boron group.
By mass, aluminium makes up about 8% of the Earth's crust; it is the third most abundant element after oxygen and silicon and the most abundant metal in the crust, though E173 is less common in the mantle below.
The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.
Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments.
Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals.
Aluminium is remarkable for its low density and its ability to resist corrosion through the phenomenon of passivation.
Aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and important in transportation and building industries, such as building facades and window frames.
The oxides and sulfates are the most useful compounds of aluminium.

Functions:
1. Colorant - Pigments or dyes that are added in order to change or enhance the color.
