Production
EMERCOL C8-10 45:55 MY (Octyl-Decyl Alcohol 45:55 ) can be prepared by the hydrogenation of decanoic acid, which occurs in modest quantities in coconut oil (about 10%) and palm kernel oil (about 4%).
EMERCOL C8-10 45:55 MY (Octyl-Decyl Alcohol 45:55 ) may also be produced synthetically via the Ziegler process.
By sodium reduction or high-pressure catalytic hydrogenation of the esters of naturally occurring capric acid, or by oligomerization of ethylene using aluminium alkyl technology.
