EMPILAN KR 5

Our EMPILAN and ENVIOMET WT alcohol alkoxylates are extremely versatile products. 
They will provide efficient wetting properties with some emulsification and even some dispersing effects depending on the length of carbon chains and ethoxylation degree.
EMPILAN KR 5 is an alcohol ethoxylate based on a C9-C11 alcohol.

EMPILAN KR 5 is an efficient wetting and foaming agent used to provide cleaning, foaming, wetting and emulsification in a wide variety of industrial applications. 
EMPILAN KR 5 is also a particularly effective detergent for Hard Surface Cleaning.
The degree of ethoxylation is circa 5. 

EMPILAN KR 5 is used in wastewater treatment and have been shown to have a positive effect on sedimentation. 
EMPILAN KR 5 is hydrophobic, which means they can be used as a wetting agent to break up oil slicks. 

In mammalian cells, EMPILAN KR 5 were found to cause genetic damage, but this is not an issue in environmental settings. 
EMPILAN KR 5 is homologous compound with predictable chemical structure, which makes them suitable for use in assays.

EMPILAN KR 5 is a non-ionic surfactant.
EMPILAN KR 5 is stable over a wide pH range.

EMPILAN KR 5 is shorter alkyl chain provides greater solubility and tolerance to the electrolyte, with very good wetting and excellent foaming power.

Uses of EMPILAN KR 5:

Wetting Ability of EMPILAN KR 5:
The wetting ability was determined by the method ISO 8022 “Determination of wetting power by immersion”, commonly referred to as the Draves wetting test. 
The results are expressed as the time elapsed, in seconds, measured at 25°C, with shorter wetting times indicating more efficient wetting agents. 

Foam Characteristics of EMPILAN KR 5:
The foam characteristics were determined by the ASTM standard D1173, Ross & Miles foam test method. 
The tests were carried out at a concentration of 1g/L in hard water and readings are expressed as volume of foam in mL, in seconds, at 25°C, at 0 seconds, then again after 60 and 300 seconds. 

Storage and Handling of EMPILAN KR 5:
Liquid alcohol ethoxylates are prone to separate and eventually solidify at low temperatures, particularly during prolonged storage. 
In this case, EMPILAN KR 5 is recommended that EMPILAN KR 5 should be re homogenised before use. 

This is readily achieved by heating EMPILAN KR 5. 
The clear point is the minimum temperature at which a homogenous solution can be expected.

Alcohol ethoxylates are chemically stable for at least 12 months in their original packaging. 
Exposure to the atmosphere can cause EMPILAN KR 5 to discolour with time, although this will not normally affect the performance. 
Excess alkali and heat are both factors that will accelerate discolouration and EMPILAN KR 5 is recommended not to store these products at elevated temperatures for prolonged periods, especially if colour is critical to the application
