EGDMA is synthesized by condensation of ethylene glycol with methacrylic acid or methacrylate esters under catalyzed reaction conditions.
When inhibited with ~50–100 ppm hydroquinone monomethyl ether (MEHQ), EGDMA remains stable during storage and transport.
The substance is inert under ambient conditions but polymerizes upon exposure to radical initiators or heat, forming crosslinked networks.

FIRST AID


Inhalation:
Move person to fresh air; seek medical attention if respiratory irritation develops.

Skin Contact:
Wash affected area with soap and water; remove contaminated clothing; seek medical advice if irritation or rash occurs (H317).

Eye Contact:
Flush with water for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention if irritation persists (H319).

Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting; rinse mouth and seek medical attention if ingestion or discomfort occurs.

Note to Physicians:
Treat symptomatically; EGDMA is an irritant/sensitizer (H317, H335), but has low systemic toxicity (oral LD₅₀ rat ~3300 mg/kg).

HANDLING AND STORAGE


Handling:
Use gloves, goggles, and protective clothing; work in well-ventilated areas; avoid inhalation of vapor or contact with skin/eyes.

Storage:
Store in sealed containers below 15 °C or refrigerated (2–8 °C) in a cool, dry location protected from light.

Spill Response:
Contain and absorb spills with inert material, avoid ignition sources, ventilate area, and dispose per local regulations.

Disposal:
Dispose of as polymerizable monomeric waste per chemical hazardous waste guidelines.

Precautions:
Contains inhibitor but may polymerize under heat/UV; confirm MEHQ content; ensure static control and avoid sources of initiation.
