DESCRIPTION:

Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is a hydrophilic fumed silica with a specific surface of 200 m2/g. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is a natural compound produced from the world's two richest substances. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is found naturally in water, plants, animals, and the earth. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 has interesting thickening and thixotropic properties, and an enormous external surface area.
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is produced in the flame, consists of microscopic amorphous silica droplets fused into branched, chain-like, three-dimensional secondary particles, which are then aggregated into tertiary particles. 

The resulting powder has an extremely low bulk density and high surface area. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200^s three-dimensional structure results in viscosity-increasing, thixotropic behavior when used as a thickener or reinforcing filler.

HOW IS FUMED SILICA-AEROSIL 200 PRODUCED?

The production of colloidal Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is obtained as a result of the hydrolysis of chlorosilanes using a high temperature hydrogen-oxygen flame. 
The temperature in the production of Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is about 18000 °C. 
At this temperature, the molten substance is cooled rapidly, allowing the substance to be in an amorphous state.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:

In physical appearance, its non-crystalline form is transparent or gray in color. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 has the appearance of an amorphous powder. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 has no scent.
The particle size is submicroscopic fumed silica.
Its Melting Point is above 1600 °C.
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is generally insoluble in organic solvents and acids. 
However, due to its structure, Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 dissolves in hydrofluoric acid. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 also dissolves in the presence of hot alkali hydroxide, that is, in hot sodium hydroxide.
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is approximately 150 mg/L in water at 258 °C. 
Only in this process the pH level should be about 7.

 

APPLICATION:

Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 has been used as a precursor to synthesize:

-Chlorosilanes via silanization, which are used to prepare silica/polydimethylsiloxane membranes to study permeation performance.
-Silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles by sol-gel method.
-Calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) by treating with CaO and water via hydrothermal reaction.
-Si/PtO2 catalyst for the selective conversion of cinnamaldehyde to cinnamic acid by aerobic oxidation.

 

USAGE AREAS:

In pharmaceutical applications, Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is used to fill tablets and capsules due to its low particle size and large surface area. 
The purpose of use in these applications is to regulate the habits of dry powders.
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 in colloidal structure is used to stabilize some chemical mixtures. 
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is also used for thickening and suspending gels, semi-solid preparations.
Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is a very good thixotropy agent.

Fumed Silica-Aerosil 200 is used in disposable tea packages to prevent clumping and to increase fluidity.
