EC/LIST NO.: 911-694-8

Glycerol formal (GF) is a light glycerol acetal that is composed of ~60% 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxane and ~40% 4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane.
Glycerol formal can be prepared by reacting glycerol and formaldehyde in the presence of acid catalyst.
The potential of GF as an injection solvent for use in toxicity testing has been reported.

The fine chemical GLYCEROL FORMAL is an almost odorless compound which is a combination of 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxane and 4-hydroxymethyl-1,3- dioxolane in 60 : 40 ratio.
Glycerol formal is liquid at room temperature and is considered as a bio-genic solvent in green chemistry.
Owing to its affinity towards polar and non polar substances it completely dissolves in water, this property qualifies it for several applications. Lets get into the details of its applications; major industries include

Pharma
Cosmetics
Printing Inks
Colors & varnishes
Adhesives
Cleaning agent
Pesticides
