EINECS:    226-242-9

Guerbet C20, also known as octyldodecanol, is a Guerbet alcohol because it has a branch at the beta position.
Compared to arachidyl alcohol, this linear alcohol polymer with the same molecular weight has a lower melting point but lower volatility.
Guerbet C20 is a colorless and transparent liquid under normal conditions.
Soluble in: mineral oil, cyclopentasiloxane, isopropyl myristate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, olive oil, etc.

Guerbet C20 can be used to study its interaction with hexameric capsules of resorcinol arenes.
Guerbet C20 has good penetration ability and good solubility for functional additives.
Guerbet C20 has a transdermal promoting effect and can promote the transdermal absorption of naproxen.
For drugs with poor transdermal performance, microemulsion with Guerbet C20 as auxiliary material can improve the transdermal speed.

Because of its unique properties, Guerbet C20 is suggested for use in body lotions, body cleans, oil/water softening creams, cleansing creams, anti-wrinkle lotions, skin lotions, hydrating lipsticks, makeup.
Guerbet C20 is widely used in cosmetics, detergent industry dispersants, fiber lubricants, printing ink moisturizing additives, advanced lubricant additives and other fields.

Guerbet C20 is widely used in cosmetics and topical pharmaceutical formulations, and is generally regarded as nontoxic and nonirritant at the levels employed as an excipient.
In acute oral toxicity studies in rats fed 5 g/kg of undiluted Guerbet C20, no deaths were observed.
In an acute dermal toxicity study, intact and abraded skin sites of guinea pigs were treated with 3 g/kg of undiluted Guerbet C20 under occlusive patches; no deaths occurred and no gross skin lesions were observed.
Guerbet C20 caused either no ocular irritation or minimal, transient irritation in the eyes of rabbits.

However, some sources describe undiluted Guerbet C20 as an eye and severe skin irritant.
The bulk material should be stored in a well-closed container in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
In the original unopened container, Guerbet C20 can be stored for 2 years protected from moisture at below 30°C.
Guerbet C20 is generally compatible with most materials encountered in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations.

Mosselman Guerbet C20 (5333-42-6) is a water-white oily-like alcohol which is mainly used in cosmetics as an oil compo- nent for the manufacture of alcoholic lotions, as oil component in emulsions and as superfatting agent in shampoo.
Guerbet C20 is miscible with vegetable, animal and mineral oils and fats.

Uses
Guerbet C20 may be used to investigate its interaction with the hexameric capsules of resorcin arene.
Guerbet C20 has been used as diluent in a extractant screening study for the recovery of putrescine (butylene-1,4-diamine, BDA) and cadaverine (pentylene-1,5-diamine, PDA) from aqueous solutions (fermentation broths) by liquid-liquid extraction.

Guerbet C20 is used in the following products: lubricants and greases, coating products, fillers, putties, plasters, modelling clay, washing & cleaning products, finger paints, air care products, polishes and waxes and cosmetics and personal care products.
Other release to the environment of Guerbet C20 is likely to occur from: indoor use (e.g. machine wash liquids/detergents, automotive care products, paints and coating or adhesives, fragrances and air fresheners), outdoor use, indoor use in close systems with minimal release (e.g. cooling liquids in refrigerators, oil-based electric heaters) and outdoor use in close systems with minimal release (e.g. hydraulic liquids in automotive suspension, lubricants in motor oil and break fluids).

Guerbet C20 is used in the following products: washing & cleaning products, lubricants and greases, polymers, coating products, inks and toners and fillers, putties, plasters, modelling clay.
Guerbet C20 is used in the following areas: formulation of mixtures and/or re-packaging.
Guerbet C20 is used for the manufacture of: chemicals, rubber products and plastic products.
Release to the environment of this substance can occur from industrial use: in processing aids at industrial sites, in the production of articles and of substances in closed systems with minimal release.

Guerbet C20 is often used as a conditioner, emollient, etc. in the field of personal care products.
Used in cosmetics and external preparations, Guerbet C20 has the function of emulsifier and lubricant. as follows:

Skin care items: Guerbet C20 is a dry and breathable oil, which has exceptional infiltration, moisturizing as well as softening results on the skin, as well as is widely used in skin treatment products and cosmetics.

As an example: Guerbet C20 has actually been used as a solution stabilizer for polymer matrix spots.

Shade cosmetics: Guerbet C20 is utilized in cosmetics as a dispersing representative, a combination agent for powdered cosmetics and a good solvent for pigments in shade cosmetics. Typically utilized in the formula of foundation lotion, sunscreen, eye darkness, lipstick, mascara, and so on.

Detergents: Guerbet C20 is used as a softener in formulations such as shower gels, conditioners or hair dyes.

Massage oil: Guerbet C20 has good permeability, great antiperspirant result, and strong affinity with the skin.
Guerbet C20 is an outstanding skin emollient with steady performance as well as is difficult to oxidize or generate odor.
Guerbet C20 can make the skin soft and also smooth without greasy feeling, as well as has good permeability.
Guerbet C20 is commonly made use of in different skin creams.

Other uses:
Guerbet C20 can be used as an intermediate in medicine, organic and materials.
Guerbet C20 has been used as a diluent in extractant screening studies to recover putrescine (butene-1,4-diamine, BDA) and cadaverine (pentene-1,5) from aqueous solutions (fermentation broth) by liquid-liquid extraction -diamine, PDA).

Used as lubricating oil/cutting fluid: Guerbet C20 is known to have excellent lubricity according to the four-ball wear scar test data.
After high temperature decomposition, there is little carbon residue and no coking, and the processing surface is very clean, so Guerbet C20 is often used in many processing environments that require no residue and high cleanliness.

For steel plate rolling: Guerbet C20 can be used as base oil and lubricant additive.
Has a large range of applications, especially appropriate for metal reducing liquids and also rolling fluids with great annealing tidiness.
In metal rolling, Guerbet C20 has excellent lubrication, low coking and high cleanliness, and is widely used in high-speed cutting, drilling, and stamping.

Guerbet C20 can be used as moistening representative, emulsifier as well as antistatic representative in fabric market.
Guerbet C20 is used as a chemical in the steel deterioration defense market.
Guerbet C20's ethoxy sulfates and alkyl sulfates are excellent surfactants.

Pharmaceutical Applications
Guerbet C20 is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications as an emulsifying and opacifying agent.
Guerbet C20 is primarily used in topical applications because of its lubricating and emollient properties.
Guerbet C20 has been used in the preparation of oil/water microemulsions investigated as the vehicle for the dermal administration of drugs having no or low skin penetration.
Guerbet C20 has also been evaluated as a solvent for naproxen when applied topically.
Studies of estimated permeability coefficient suggest that Guerbet C20 could be a potential dermal permeation enhancer.
