HEXADECENE

HEXADECENE

Hexadecene is used as an intermediate for organic synthesis.
Hexadecene is utilized as a blend for off-shore drilling fluids.
Hexadecene is also used as a surface active agent, finishing agent, process regulator, functional fluid, lubricant and lubricant additive.
Further, Hexadecene acts as comonomers in polymer such as low density polyethylenes, which shows thiner, flexibility and tearing resistance.

European Community (EC) Number: 211-105-8

IUPAC Name: hexadec-1-ene

Molecular Formula: C16H32
Molecular Weight: 224.42 g/mol

Hexadecene, also known as 1-cetene, is a long-chain hydrocarbon and an alkene with the molecular formula CH2=CH(CH2)13CH3.
1-Hexadecene is one of many isomers of hexadecene.
Classified as an alpha-olefin, Hexadecene is a colorless liquid.

Hexadecene is used as a surfactant in lubricating fluid, a drilling fluid in the boring and drilling industry, and in paper sizing.

However, the high reactivity of Hexadecene means that exposure to air could cause oxidation of its surface layer, forming unwanted impurities.
Hexadecene is stored with the use of tank blanketing, and handled in a dry, inert atmosphere.

Hexadecene molecule contains a total of 47 bond(s).
There are 15 non-H bond(s), 1 multiple bond(s), 13 rotatable bond(s), and 1 double bond(s).

Hexadecene, also known as cetene or alpha-hexadecylene, is a member of the class of compounds known as unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons.
Unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons are aliphatic Hydrocarbons that contains one or more unsaturated carbon atoms.
These compounds contain one or more double or triple bonds.
Hexadecene can be found in safflower, which makes 1-hexadecene a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
Hexadecene is more reactive than other hexadecene isomers, giving it a number of useful applications.
For instance, Hexadecene is widely used as a surfactant in lubricating fluid, a drilling fluid in the boring and drilling industry, and in paper sizing .

Hexadecene enters into all reactions typical of alpha olefins.
Hexadecene can be used in the production of amines and amine oxides, oxo alcohols, alkylated aromatics, alpha olefin sulfonates, alkyl succinic anhydrides, drilling fluids, epoxides and synthetic fatty acids.
