Synthesis:
Hydroxylamine Sulfate can be obtained by the acid-base reaction of hydroxylamine with sulfuric acid:
2NH2OH(aq) + H2SO4(aq) → (NH3OH)2SO4(aq)

 

Applications:
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is used in organic synthesis to convert aldehydes and ketones to oximes, carboxylic acids and their derivatives (e.g. esters) to hydroxamic acids, isocyanates to N-hydroxyureas and nitriles to amidoximes. 
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is also used to generate hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid from oleum or chlorosulfuric acid.
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is used in the production of:

Hydroxylamine Sulfate is a radical scavenger that terminates radical polymerization reactions and serves as an antioxidant in natural rubber. 
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is a starting material for some insecticides, herbicides and growth regulators. 
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is used in photography as a stabiliser for colour developers and as an additive in photographic emulsions in colour film.

 

Decomposition:
At 120 °C, Hydroxylamine Sulfate begins to decompose to sulfur trioxide, nitrous oxide, water, and ammonia:
2(NH3OH)2SO4 → 2SO3 + N2O + 2NH3 + 5H2O
The reaction is exothermic above 138 °C, and is most exothermic at 177 °C.
Metals (especially copper, its alloys and its salts) catalyse the decomposition of Hydroxylamine Sulfate. 
The instability of this compound is mainly due to the hydroxylammonium ion's weak nitrogen to oxygen single bond.

Hydroxylamine Sulfate (NH2OH)2 H2SO4 is one of the intermediate products of the Caprolactam Plant.
The major use is in its reaction with organic compounds to produce derivatives such as Oximes which may be intermediates in the production of materials such as Nylon-6. 
The Oximes may also be used as anti-oxidants, stabilizers and anti-skinning agents in inks and paints.
Hydroxylamine Sulfate is used as reducing agent in photographic processes, dyeing, synthetic fibres and purification of a number of water-soluble products.

Cyclohexanone oxime undergoes hydrolytic reaction with sulfuric acid to yield hydroxylamine sulfate. 
Hydroxylamine Sulfate reacts with sulfur dioxide to afford sulfamic acid.

 

Application:
Hydroxylamine sulfate may be used in the following:
-Along with NaCl for reduction during the atomic absorption spectrophotometric quantification of mercury at ppb (parts-per-billion) levels in solution.
-As one of the constituents during the preparation of a coloring solution, impregnated in a cellulose based monitoring tape for the sensitive detection of formaldehyde gas.
-Simultaneous estimation of hydrarine and hydroxylamine in mixtures by titration with alkaline ferricyanide in presence of zinc sulfate.

Solid Hydroxylamine Sulfate is reacted with an alcohol solution of an alkali metal hydroxide or alkoxide to produce an alcoholic hydroxylamine liquid phase and a sulfate-containing solid phase. 
The liquid phase is further reacted with an acid other than sulfuric acid to form another hydroxylammonium salt. 
The different bases behave differently with regard to suitable and preferably solvents and temperatures.
