JEFFCAT DMDEE is an amine based catalyst that is also known as dimorpholino-diethyl ether. 
JEFFCAT DMDEE can act as a catalyst for blowing reactions and facilitates the process of polymeric curing.

Application

JEFFCAT DMDEE is one of the important polyurethane catalysts. There are two methods for the synthesis of DMDEE: diethylene glycol and ammonia in the presence of hydrogen and metal catalysts, reacting at high temperature and high pressure to obtain bismorpholinyl diethyl ether; or diethylene glycol and morpholine in hydrogen and metal catalyst copper or cobalt. 
In the presence of high temperature and high pressure reaction, bismorpholinyl diethyl ether is obtained.
The above two synthetic routes both use metals as catalysts and are generally gas-phase high-temperature and high-pressure reactions, which have disadvantages such as high production costs, difficult operation, and difficult product separation. 
The author uses dichloroethyl ether and morpholine as raw materials in the production of DMDEE, qualified products can be produced under mild conditions, with a product yield of 80% and a product purity of more than 99%.

Instructions for Storage
The solidification point of JEFFCAT DMDEE is below-20  °C, i. e. storage temperatures fluctuating around 0 °C do not cause any deterioration of the material.
Nevertheless it is recommended to bring the material to room temperature before the material is used.
For JEFFCAT DMDEE we guarantee a shelf life of at least 12 months upon delivery under the condition,
that it is stored in factory-packed containers and protected against extreme weather conditions, particularly against heat and moisture.

After a prolonged storage of JEFFCAT DMDEE the color of the product may change to slightly yellow or
brownish, however, the catalytic activity remains unchanged.

Application
For many years JEFFCAT DMDEE has been known in the polyurethane foaming industry as a well approved
catalyst, specially supporting the water / isocyanate reaction.

JEFFCAT DMDEE is mainly used in the production of foams, e.g. polyester polyurethane foams or one
component foams where on one hand the so-called "gas reaction" is promoted, but on the other hand the
influence on the so-called "cross-linking reaction" is minor.
Due to the almost not existing gelling / cross-linking activity, JEFFCAT DMDEE provides a very long shelf life when used in prepolymers.

Isocyanate-terminated adhesive amphiphilic block copolymers are attractive materials to treat meniscus tears due to their tunable mechanical properties and good adhesive characteristics. 

However, a drawback of this class of materials is their relatively long curing time. In this study, we evaluate the use of an amine cross-linker and the addition of catalysts as two strategies to accelerate the curing rates of a recently developed biodegradable reactive isocyanate-terminated hyper-branched adhesive block copolymer prepared from polyethylene glycol (PEG), trimethylene carbonate, citric acid and hexamethylene diisocyanate. 

The curing kinetics of the hyper-branched adhesive alone and in combination with different concentrations of spermidine solutions, and after addition of 2,2-dimorpholinodiethylether (DMDEE) or 1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane (DABCO) were determined using FTIR. 
Additionally, lap-shear adhesion tests using all compositions at various time points were performed. 
The two most promising compositions of the fast curing adhesives were evaluated in a meniscus bucket handle lesion model and their performance was compared with that of fibrin glue. 
The results showed that the addition of both spermidine and catalysts to the adhesive copolymer can accelerate the curing rate and that firm adhesion can already be achieved after 2 h. 
The adhesive strength to meniscus tissue of 3.2–3.7 N was considerably higher for the newly developed compositions than for fibrin glue (0.3 N). 

JEFFCAT DMDEE is a liquid, tertiary amine catalyst used in the manufacture of rigid polyurethane foams and adhesives. 
In polyol formulations, this catalyst has shown good blowing efficiency and mild gel activity, and is excellent for consideration where storage stability is critical due to the acidity coming from HFO, formic acid or polyesters.
