Kathon CG offers benefits including environmentally acceptable, not bioaccumulating and no color or odor imparted to cosmetic products.
Kathon CG is simple water-based formulation for ease of use in manufacture.
Kathon CG is used in rinse-off hair and skin care products like shampoos, conditioners, body wash/ shower gels and liquid hand soaps.

Kathon CG, a combination of methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone, is widely used as preservative in cosmetics, as well in household cleaning products, industrial products such as paints and glues.

Kathon CG/ICP preservative is a highly effective, broad spectrum biocide with excellent compatibility and stability, and low toxicity at in-use levels.
At very low concentrations, Kathon CG/ICP preservative eradicates bacteria, fungi, and yeast cells for prolonged periods.
Kathon CG does not interfere with most enzyme- or antibody-linked reactions or assay indicators.
The product as supplied easily can be neutralized with 10% sodium bisulfite solution and disposed of as nonhazardous waste.
In most cases Kathon CG/ICP can be the preservative of choice for applications in which traditional antimicrobials, such as sodium azide or thimerosal, have been used.

Kathon CG is a broad-spectrum preservative for rinse-off personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body washes, and shower gels.
Kathon CG also sees use in all-purpose cleaners, floor and furniture polishes & waxes, automotive washes, polishes & waxes, air fresheners, moist sponges, and towelettes.

Kathon CG is an outstanding antimicrobial agent that is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and mold.
The active ingredients in Kathon CG are two isothiazolinones used in combination: methylisothiazolinone (C4H5NOS) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (C4H4ClNOS).
These active ingredients are formulated with inert salts in an aqueous solution.

Due to its broad-spectrum activity, low toxicity at recommended use levels, and excellent chemical compatibility, Kathon CG provides formulators with an economical and environmentally acceptable alternative to other commercial preservatives.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone, also referred to as MCI, is the organic compound with the formula S(C2HCl)C(O)N(CH3).
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is a white solid that melts near room temperature. The compound is an isothiazolinone, a class of heterocycles used as biocides.
These compounds have an active sulphur moiety that is able to oxidize thiol-containing residues, thereby effectively killing most aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
MCI is often used in combination with methylisothiazolinone, a mixture known as Kathon.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone is found in many water-based personal care products and cosmetics.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone was first used in cosmetics in the 1970s.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is also used in glue production, detergents, paints, fuels, and other industrial processes.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is known by the registered tradename Kathon CG when used in combination with methylisothiazolinone.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone may be used in combination with other preservatives including ethylparaben, benzalkonium chloride, and bronopol.

KATHON CG is a mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one.
KATHON CG is one of the most commonly used preservatives and is found in many consumer products.

Kathon CG (Cosmetic Grade) is the commercial name of a mixture of isothiazolines, synthesized by the chemical industry from the 1960s.
KATHON CG is a preservative and powerful biocide 1 widely used in industry due to its low price and high efficacy at low concentrations against various microorganisms.
In its composition we find the following ingredients 2,3 : 1.125% Methylisothiazolinone (MI; CAS 2682-20-4) and 0.375% Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI; CAS 26172-55-4), which are the active compounds, 23% chloride and magnesium nitrate, which act as stabilizers and 75.5% water.

KATHON CGs presence has been increasing since the late 1970s in Europe and the mid-1980s in the US, to be, at present, a widely used preservative in various fields but preferably in the cosmetic industry, for the conservation of various products such as rinse-off type preparations (products that require rinsing, such as shampoos, bath gels), and leave-on type preparations (products without rinsing, such as creams and cleansing milks), and wet wipes, at concentrations ranging from 0.02-0.1%.
In addition, the presence of this preservative in cleaning products for domestic use and in higher concentrations in products for industrial use, such as cutting oils, latex emulsions, tempera paints, photographic and radiography developers, oils for diesel engines, is also very relevant.

Kathon CG-III (5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one).

Preserving agent for cosmetic products and hygiene products.

Provides reliable protection even at very low concentrations. Has a constant ratio of active components 3:1, maximizing the efficiency of conservation.

Does not contain the stabilization of salts, does not dilute the gel system.

The preserving agent Kathon CG (methyl -, isothiazolinone) has a very broad spectrum of action: it prevents the growth of bacteria, yeasts and moulds.

Unstable at temperatures above 35-40C, rapidly oxidized in the light.
It should be noted that at low concentrations of derivatives of isothiazolinone recognized as safe preservatives not only in Europe and the US but also in Japan, which is known for the most stringent legislation in the field of health consumers of cosmetics.
Preserving agent "Kathon CG" contains two derivatives of sotia-Solana, providing a uniquely wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity.

This preserving agent is active both against fungi and against bacteria (no need to apply multiple preserving agent in one product, which is very often practiced).
Minimum ingredients Kathon CG preservative against fungi and bacteria is lowest compared with other cosmetic preserving agents.

Dosage of a preservative: 0.1 % — rinse-off products; 0,05 % — leave it on the skin products.
This is one of the few preserving agents permitted for use worldwide, including USA, European Union countries, Japan and Russia.

By the undisputed advantages of Kathon CG is the fact that it is not a formaldehyde-releasing preserving agent and, therefore, do not change color cosmetics.

Biocide Kathon CG has several advantages compared to other commonly used preserving agents:

• good compatibility with surfactants and emulsifiers regardless of their ionic nature;

• the efficiency in the whole range of pH values typical for cosmetic products;

• gives cosmetics no color or smell.
