KOTILEN-S/1

Kotilen-S/1s are oily liquids derived from PEG-ylated sorbitan (a derivative of sorbitol) esterified with fatty acids.
Kotilen-S/1 is obtained by esterification of sorbitol with one or three molecules of a fatty acid including stearic, lauric, oleic, and palmitic acid.
Kotilen-S/1 is the common name for polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate, it is a hydrophilic (water-loving) surfactant.

Kotilen-S/1 is an orangish colored oily viscous liquid at room temperature.
It will be a semisolid at lower temperatures. Poly 60 has an HLB (hydrophilic/lipophilic balance) of 14.9.

It is slightly more lipophilic than polysorbate 20 and 40 due to the longer length of stearic acid.
Kotilen-S/1 is soluble in water due to its high HLB ratio and not soluble in oils.
Kotilen-S/1 easily blends into water.

Kotilen-S/1 is used as a high HLB emulsifier in combination with low HLB emulsifiers to create stable oil-in-water emulsions.
Suggested pairings are with cetyl or stearyl alcohols, or sorbitan stearate.

Kotilen-S/1 is a polysorbate-type nonionic surfactant formed by the ethoxylation of sorbitan monolaurate.

Its stability and relative nontoxicity allows it to be used as a detergent and emulsifier in a number of domestic, scientific, and pharmacological applications.
As the name implies, the ethoxylation process leaves the molecule with 20 repeat units of polyethylene glycol; in practice these are distributed across 4 different chains, leading to a commercial product containing a range of chemical species.
Kotilen-S/1 is a type of cationic surfactant used in various industrial and cosmetic applications.

Kotilen-S/1’s particularly useful for its conditioning and antistatic properties.
The exact formulation of Kotilen-S/1 may vary depending on the manufacturer, but it typically includes quaternary ammonium compounds that contribute to its effectiveness as a softening and conditioning agent.

Kotilen-S/1 is used in personal care products, especially hair conditioners, to improve softness and manageability.
Its cationic nature helps it bind to negatively charged hair strands, smoothing the hair cuticle and reducing frizz.
The ingredient reduces static buildup, which is particularly beneficial in hair care products to prevent flyaways and improve overall hair appearance.

In creams and lotions, Kotilen-S/1 can act as an emulsifier, helping to blend oil and water phases.
It may also contribute to the thickness and stability of formulations.
Industrially, it may be used as a fabric softener, helping to make textiles feel smoother and reducing static cling.

Kotilen-S/1 is used as a wetting agent in flavored mouth drops such as Ice Drops, helping to provide a spreading feeling to other ingredients like SD alcohol and mint flavor.
The World Health Organization has suggested acceptable daily intake limits of 0–25 mg of polyoxyethylene sorbitan esters per kg body weight.
Kotilen-S/1 is Used to improve hair smoothness, softness, and detangle.

Found in lotions and creams for conditioning effects.
Kotilen-S/1 acts as a softening and antistatic agent for fabrics.
Direct contact may cause irritation, so it’s typically used in diluted concentrations.

Like many cationic surfactants, it can be toxic to aquatic life if released into waterways in high concentrations.
In skincare, it provides a smooth, non-greasy feel that helps creams and lotions feel light while delivering conditioning benefits.
