DEFINITION OF LAURYL LACTATE:
Lauryl lactate, also known as dodecyl lactate, is as the name suggests made from lauryl alcohol and lactic acid via an esterification process.
Lauryl alcohol is obtained from palm oil.
Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are naturally occuring organic acids also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHAs.
The salts of Glycolic Acid (Ammonium Glycolate, Sodium Glycolate), the salts of Lactic Acid (Ammonium Lactate, Calcium Lactate, Potassiu Lactate, Sodium Lactate, TEA-Lactate) and the esters of Lactic Acid (Methyl Lactate, Ethyl Lactate, Butyl Lactate, Lauryl Lactate, Myristyl Lactate, Cetyl Lactate) may also be used in cosmetics and personal care products.
In cosmetics and personal care products, these ingredients are used in the formulation of moisturizers, cleansing products, and other skin care products, as well as in makeup, shampoos, hair dyes and colors and other hair care products.

USES/BENEFITS OF LAURYL LACTATE:
LAURYL LACTATE is an ester of fatty alcohol and fatty acid.
LAURYL LACTATE has properties of both the molecules in a way that provides moisture or improves the fat content of the skin.
LAURYL LACTATE gives a smooth feel to the skin and forms a protective layer on the skin that retains skin moisture within.
LAURYL LACTATE has a free alcohol group in its chemical formula, which gives it water solubility and such property is particularly useful in the preparation of bath oil.
LAURYL LACTATE doesn’t dry out the skin as well as offers cleansing to the skin.
LAURYL LACTATE is used in moisturizers, cleansing products, skincare products, makeup, shampoos, hair dyes, and hair care products.
LAURYL LACTATE is also infrequently used to impart fragrance in some products.
LAURYL LACTATE is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and specially for Topical products (i.e. Transdermal patches)

Super Refined Lauryl Lactate is a highly purified alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) ester product.
While  Super Refined Lauryl Lactate is occasionally used as a surfactant in an emulsion, typical applications for lauryl lactate include emolliency and penetration enhancement in topical formulations.
Super Refined Lauryl Lactate  can also be used as a solubiliser for hydrophobic molecules, such as poorly water soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) while still remaining water soluble.
Super Refined Lauryl Lactate  is a naturally derived, mild, and virtually odourless nonionic surfactant.

Ceraphyl™ 31 can be used to enhance sensory in a hand sanitizer formulations.

SAFETY MEASURES/SIDE EFFECTS:
The CIR has approved Lauryl Lactate for use in cosmetics, but only in concentrates less than 10%, and only with a pH level of 3.5 or greater.
While Lauryl Lactate itself is not considered carcinogenic, because Lauryl Lactate is classified as an AHA and sometimes used as an exfoliant,
Lauryl Lactate is thought to increase the risk of cancer because Lauryl Lactate exposes the upper layers of the dermis to UV rays.
Therefore, Lauryl Lactate should always be used with a sunscreen to negate this increase risk.
The FDA has approved Lauryl Lactate as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) when used as a food additive.

First aid measures
If Lauryl Lactate is inhaled
-If breathed in, move person into fresh air.
If not breathing, give artificial respiration.
 Consult a physician.
In case of skin contact of Lauryl Lactate
-Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Consult a physician.
In case of eye contact of Lauryl Lactate
-Flush eyes with water as a precaution.
If Lauryl Lactate is swallowed
-Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
 Rinse mouth with water.
 Consult a physician.

Firefighting Measures
Suitable extinguishing media for  Lauryl lactate
-Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.
Special hazards arising from Lauryl lactate or mixture of Lauryl lactate
-Carbon oxides
Advice for firefighters
-Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if necessary

Handling and storage
 Precautions for safe handling
-Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at places where Lauryl lactate dust is formed.
Conditions for safe storage
