Lithium acetate (LiOAc) is a lithium source and a doping salt which can be used in the preparation of plasticized polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium acetate can be used as a monovalent cation, which improves the transformation efficiency of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Lithium Acetate is a moderately water soluble crystalline Lithium source that decomposes to Lithium oxide on heating.

Lithium acetate is generally immediately available in most volumes.
Lithium acetates are inorganic salts containing a metal cation and the acetate anion, a univalent (-1 charge) polyatomic ion composed of two carbon atoms ionically bound to three hydrogen and two oxygen atoms (Symbol: CH3COO) for a total formula weight of 59.05.

Lithium acetates are excellent precursors for production of ultra high purity compounds, catalysts, and nanoscale materials.
Lithium acetate is a salt made from acetic acid and lithium.

The chemical symbol of the Lithium acetate is LiCH3CO2.
Lithium acetate is formed through the neutralization process of acetic acid, CH3CO2H (a weak acid), and Lithium acetate LiOH (H2O) n (a strong base).

Like any neutralization reaction between a base and an acid, water is one of the by-products of this reaction: LiOH + CH3COOH = LiCH3COO + H2O
Lithium acetate is used in the preparation of the modified ninhydrin reagent for amino analysis by ion-exchange chromatography.

Lithium acetate is essential for obtaining a fully soluble dimethyl sulfoxide-buffer mixture and for eliminating possible salt precipitation when the ninhydrin reagent mixes with the sodium citrate-containing effluent from an ion-exchange column.
Lithium acetate is a very common salt with many and varied uses.
Nevertheless, only two compounds were known apparently, the anhydrous salt and Lithium acetate, but only the latter was really characterized.

USES:
Lithium acetate is used in the laboratory as buffer for gel electrophoresis of DNA and RNA.
Lithium acetate has a lower electrical conductivity and can be run at higher speeds than can gels made from TAE buffer (5-30V/cm as compared to 5-10V/cm).

At a given voltage, the heat generation and thus the gel temperature is much lower than with TAE buffers, therefore the voltage can be increased to speed up electrophoresis so that a gel run takes only a fraction of the usual time.
Downstream applications, such as isolation of DNA from a gel slice or Southern blot analysis, work as expected when using lithium acetate gels.

Lithium boric acid or sodium boric acid are usually preferable to lithium acetate or TAE when analyzing smaller fragments of DNA (less than 500 bp) due to the higher resolution of borate-based buffers in this size range as compared to acetate buffers.
Lithium acetate is also used to permeabilize the cell wall of yeast for use in DNA transformation.

Lithium acetate is believed that the beneficial effect of LiOAc is caused by its chaotropic effect; denaturing DNA, RNA and proteins.
Lithium acetate (LiCH3CO2) is very useful in life transformation processes; to be precise, DNA analysis.

During DNA and RNA analysis, Lithium acetate is used as a buffer for gel electrophoresis of DNA and RNA.
Due to its low electrical conductivity and ability to be run at high speed, lithium salt gels from the TAE buffer.

The TAE buffer is a mixture of EDTA, Tris base, and acetic acid and functions as a buffer solution.
The heat generation at a particular voltage will trigger lower gel temperatures compared to the TAE buffers.

When this happens, the voltage is increased to fasten the electrophoresis; therefore the gel will take only a fraction of the average time.
When you use lithium acetate gels during downstream applications, the applications work effectively and quickly.

Examples of downstream applications during RNA or DNA analysis include:
