LUGALVAN FDC

These additives are nonionic surfactants for the electroplating industry.

Lugalvan FDC is Aqueous Emulsion of Ethylene Copolymer.
Lugalvan FDC is an emulsifier-free aqueous polymer emulsion.
Lugalvan FDC can be mixed with water in any ratio, provided that the pH does not fall below 8.5.

Experience has shown that the pH is approx. 9 if necessary with ammonia or amines such as triethanolamine or dimethylethanolamine to prevent solids precipitation.
Lugalvan FDC can be applied by dipping, spinning or spraying.

Care should be taken not to form foam when applied by spraying.
For example, 200 ml of Lugalvan FDC solution diluted to a solids content of 15% creates more than 350 ml of foam after 30 cycles in a foam tester when shaken for 30 seconds and then left for 30 seconds.

The volume of foam formed can be reduced to less than 50 ml by adding 0.1% Degressal SD 20 without impairing Lugalvan FDC corrosion resistance.
The thickness of the polymer film can be controlled by adjusting the viscosity.

Viscosity is highly dependent on the solids content of the bath, but can also be affected by bath temperature, pH or the presence of additives.
Transparent films applied by immersion in an aqueous bath usually have a thickness of 1 – 10 µm.

Thicker films can be applied by dipping the substrate several times and allowing Lugalvan FDC to dry each time Lugalvan FDC is dipped.
Very homogeneous films are obtained by sequential immersion and intermediate drying steps in diluted Lugalvan FDC solutions.

If baths are exposed to the atmosphere and are mixed, Lugalvan FDC is recommended to monitor their solids content to ensure that the film thickness remains constant.
Depending on the thickness of the film, Lugalvan FDC is generally recommended to dry the film at high temperatures.

Depending on their size, shape and thickness, components coated with Lugalvan FDC can generally be dried at 80 °C (fan heater) for 1 minute to a non-stick finish.
For greater corrosion protection, drying at high temperature or with prolonged reaction time is recommended, e.g. g. 10 minutes at 80 °C or 1 ammo at 130 °C.

Drying times are accordingly shorter at higher temperatures.
The film may gradually yellow if exposed to temperatures above 150 °C for extended periods, but the discoloration is purely aesthetic and the polymer does not undergo any thermal degradation.
Lugalvan FDC can be tinted with our Luconyl and Disperse pigment preparations, which normally need to be added at 0.1–5%. Pigments can be easily mixed by mixing and elaborate mixing techniques are not required, but we recommend filtering the emulsion if necessary to remove undispersed pigments.
