Uses    
m-Xylenediamine can be used:
As a monomer for the synthesis of poly(vinylogous urethane) vitrimers.
As a starting material for the synthesis of carbamate-protected multisubstituted bis-guanidine.
For the synthesis of polyamides by catalytic dehydrogenation with diols.
Manufacture of polyamide fibers and resins, as a curing agent.
m-Xylenediamine is used in a variety of industrial applications including amine based curing agents for epoxy resins which may then be formulated into coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.
m-Xylenediamine undergoes the Sommelet reaction to give isophthalaldehyde.
m-Xylenediamine is an aliphatic diamine with a benzene ring in the skeletal framework and is in colorless liquid form at room temperature. 
With this unique chemical structure, its specific ability is shown when being used for epoxy, polyamide, or urethane.

Greater than 99.9% of m-Xylenediamine is used in three categories: polyamide (major), epoxy curing agent, and polyurethane production.

Hazards
Exposure to m-Xylenediamine may occur by inhalation, skin contact, eye exposure, or ingestion. 
m-Xylenediamine can cause chemical burns, tissue damage, delayed pulmonary edema, shock, and skin sensitization. 
Symptoms of inhalation include a burning sensation in the respiratory tract, cough, sore throat, labored breathing, and dyspnea (shortness of breath). 
m-Xylenediamine is also flammable and produces toxic fumes when burned. 
m-Xylenediamine reacts with acids, acid chlorides, and acid anhydrides.
