MAGNESIUM LAURETH SULFATE

CAS Number: 62755-21-9
EC Number: 613-078-1
Chemical formula: (C12H26SO4(C2H4O)n)2Mg
Molar mass: 819.3994 g

Magnesium laureth sulfate is the magnesium salt of laureth sulfate (2-dodecoxyethylsulfate), which is in turn the ester of laureth (2-dodecoxylethanol) and sulfuric acid.
Magnesium laureth sulfate is used mainly in the chemical industry for the preparation of specialized shampoos for people of delicate skin.
Magnesium laureth sulfate works even in hard water.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is generally considered a safe ingredient, although the EWG does have concerns that contamination can occur by Ethylene Oxide and 1,4 Dioxane, two known toxins.
This chance is slim, however, and contamination can be monitored and controlled.
No other research to suggest that Magnesium Laureth Sulfate had adverse side effects was found.
The Material Safety Data Sheet says that mild eye irritation may be caused.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is a magnesium salt of Laureth sulfate.
Magnesium Laureth Sulfate belongs to the group called ethoxylated alcohol salts.
Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is produced chemically.
Magnesium Laureth Sulfate appears as a light-yellow colored, odorless liquid.

Use & Benefits:
Magnesium laureth sulfate acts as a surfactant, which has water and oil-loving parts in a single molecule.
When oil-loving part of a molecule binds with dirt and fatty secretions of the skin, the water-loving part effectively drags the whole complex into the water, thus it can be rinsed away easily.
This way it also acts as a cleaning agent.
Magnesium laureth sulfate is mainly used in making shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps.

Ethoxylated Alcohol salts are ingredients used primarily in cleansing products, including bubble baths, bath soaps and shampoos.
Examples include Ammonium Capryleth Sulfate, Ammonium Pareth-25 Sulfate, Ammonium Myreth Sulfate, Magnesium Coceth Sulfate, Magnesium Laureth Sulfate, Magnesium Myreth Sulfate, Magnesium Oleth Sulfate, Sodium Coceth Sulfate, Sodium C10-15 Pareth Sulfate, Sodium C12-13 Pareth Sulfate, Sodium C12-15 Pareth Sulfate, Sodium Deceth Sulfate, Sodium Laneth Sulfate, Sodium Myreth Sulfate, Sodium Oleth Sulfate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate and Zinc Coceth Sulfate.

Most of the ingredients function as surfactants and are used as cleansing agents.
They clean the skin and hair by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that they can be rinsed away.
Others specifically, Magnesium Coceth Sulfate, Sodium Coceth Sulfate, Sodium Myreth Sulfate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate and Zinc Coceth Sulfate also exhibit emulsifying properties.
Sodium Laneth Sulfate is reported to additionally act as a skin conditioning agent.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate  is a chemical compound obtained by ethoxylation from Ethylene oxide, a chemical compound that is rather controversial due to its composition in which traces of impurities hazardous to human health may be found.
Surfactant widely used in cosmetics as a cleaning agent.

Used in shampoos and liquid soaps, this component lessens the skin when compared to other surfactant products.
Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is therefore suitable for the most sensitive and delicate skins.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is the salt of Sodium Laureth Sulfate, a safe ingredient used in
cosmetics for its cleaning action, in fact it helps to keep the surface on which it acts clean and as a surfactant reducing the surface tension of cosmetics helping the uniform distribution of the product during its use.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is a very mild surfactant that does not irritate and is particularly suitable for sensitive
and delicate skin.
Used in Shampoos, it removes dirt, avoiding the accumulation of other impurities and other
products, thus cleaning hair and skin in a delicate and less irritating way.

Magnesium Laureth Sulfate is used for Hair care and other conditions.
This salt may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
