MELAPUR 200

Melapur 200, melamine polyphosphate, is a halogen-free flame retardant specially developed for glass fiber reinforced polyamide 66.
As a white powder Melapur 200 opens up new and broader color schemes for flame retarded glass fiber reinforced PA 66. 
At exposure to fire a strong and stable char is formed which protects the polymer and prevents further flame propagation.

Melapur 200 is a halogen-free flame retardant, and have very high thermal stability. 
Melapur 200 can be widely applied in thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics, and rubber, fiber, and so on. 
Melapur 200 is used specially for glass fiber reinforced polyamide 66. 
The type include the MPP-A and MPP-B.

Melapur 200 is a halogen-free, flame retardant based on melamine polyphosphate. 
Upon exposure to strong fire, Melapur 200 forms a stable char which protects the polymer and prevents further flame propagation.
Recommended for glass fiber reinforced polyamide 66 and polyester (PBT).
Primarily used for electrical & electronic applications (connectors, switches & housings).
The good balance between intumescence and thermal stability provides processing window of up to 320°C.
Melapur 200 is compliant with UL 94 V0 (0.8 mm) at 25% by weight.

Melapur 200 is a salt of melamine and cyanuric acid. 
Melapur 200 has a higher thermal stability than pure melamine, remaining stable up to about 320ºC. 
For this reason, Melapur 200 flame retardant is often applied in polymers with higher processing temperatures. 
Above 320ºC, Melapur 200 undergoes endothermic decomposition to melamine and cyanuric acid, acting as a heat sink in the process. 
The vaporized melamine acts as an inert gas source diluting the oxygen and the fuel gases present at the point of combustion. 
Examples of suitable polymers: all nitrogenbased polymers such as polyamide 66, 6, 11, 12, thermoplastic polyurethane and polyurethane.

Melapur 200 is a salt of melamine and phosphoric acid. 
Above 200 ºC, Melapur 200 reacts to release water, resulting in a heat sink and leaving the phosphorous component available to react synergistically with other flame retardant components. 
Therefore, Melapur 200 is often used in blended flame retardant systems for applications, such as coatings and sealants.

Melapur 200 flame retardant decomposes endothermically above 350ºC, acting as a heat sink to cool the polymer. 
The released phosphoric acid further reacts with the polymer to form a char and inhibit the release of free radical gasses into the oxygen phase. 
Simultaneously, nitrogen species released from the degradation of melamine intumesces the char to further protect the polymer.
Melapur 200 flame retardant was originally developed to suit the high processing temperatures associated with the compounding of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics. 
Over time, Melapur 200 flame retardants have also evolved into other applications, either replacing existing flame retardant systems, such as ammonium polyphosphate (APP) or permitting development of new formulations such as flame retardant epoxy resins or phenolic resins with improved flame retardancy.

Melapur 200 is a halogen-free flame retardant. 
Addition levels are relatively low, giving good economics, mechanical properties and lower specific gravity compared to compounds containing halogen/antimony flame retardant systems. 
Being halogen free also results in significant advantages in terms of fire safety, i.e. lower smoke density, lower smoke toxicity and less corrosion.  
Lower corrosivity offers advantages both in the processing stage and in case of a fire. 
In the processing stage, the lifetime of barrels and molds will be extended, resulting in decreased equipment costs.

Melapur 200 is a halogen free FR and offers significant advantages in terms of fire safety, i. e. lower smoke density, lower smoke toxicity and less corrosive gases.

Melapur 200 can also be used for epoxy resin, polypropylene, polyethylene and other polyolefin flame retardant. 
Melapur 200 can produce synergistic effect with ammonium polyphosphate and hypophosphite.
