MERGAL 743

CAS Number: 2634-33-5, 2527-58-4
EC Number: 220-120-9, 219-768-5

MERGAL 743 was developed as a broad‐spectrum wet state preservative for the protection of aqueous systems from deterioration and degradation caused by bacteria, fungi and yeast with no  release of formaldehyde.

Highlights of MERGAL 743:
Especially effective against a broad variety of bacteria, yeast and fungi,
Long term stable in a broad pH range,
Robust to raw material variation and process parameter,
Temperature stable,
No formaldehyde release, no volatile organic carbon compounds.

Uses of MERGAL 743:
MERGAL 743 is useful for the protection of various water containing materials, especially lignosulfonate based and other concrete additives, polymer dispersions, adhesives, starch solutions, mineral slurries, pigment slurries, architectural paints, as well as other industrial systems.
MERGAL 743 is a highly concentrated low viscous liquid SC-formulation.

MERGAL 743 is usually suitable for use under the following conditions:
pH between: 3 ‐ 10
Temperatures up to: 70 °C

Function/Activity of MERGAL 743:
Suggested use levels of MERGAL 743 are based on laboratory and field evaluations and are typical for the applications indicated.
The actual level required for your system is formulation specific.

Suggested use levels of MERGAL 743 for the indicated applications should be verified by field trials.
Suggested use levels of MERGAL 743 are reported as a percentage of the end-use product as a ratio of the preservative weight to weight of the final end-use product.

Ligno sulfonates: 0.1 – 0.4
Naphthalene sulfonates: 0.05 – 0.2
Molasses: 0.1 to 0.2
Polycarboxylates: 0.03 to 0.15
Mineral slurries: 0.03 to 0.15
Adhesives: 0.05 to 0.15

The actual level of MERGAL 743 required for antimicrobial protection is formulation specific.
The individual components of the formulation, the binder and solids level, and the environment in which the material will be exposed all have an influence on the amount of protection needed.

Good production and storage hygiene practice is compulsive while using modern zero-formaldehyde and zero-VOC preservatives.
The production and cleaning water should be of good microbiological quality.

The water reservoirs and storage tanks have to be controlled for biofilms and high cell counts of bacteria.
Especially bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas should be present only at low cell counts.

The use of a sanitizer for plant hygiene purposes is suggested.
In refilled storage tanks at ready-mix concrete plants good hygiene practices with regular cleaning and sanitization cycles are important to avoid build-up of preservative insensitive micro-flora.

The presence of microorganisms can be checked by Troy BF-Indicators.
Tank side post addition of MERGAL 743 can be done, the tank should be mixed by circle pumping.
Avoid strong oxidizing conditions which can deactivate the antimicrobial components.

Formulating Considerations of MERGAL 743:

Formulation Testing of MERGAL 743:
MERGAL 743 should be added with good agitation or mixing and can be added at any stage of the production process.
For best results and to achieve a homogeneous distribution MERGAL 743 should preferably be added as early in the production process as possible.

Storage of MERGAL 743:
Keep MERGAL 743 container tightly closed.
Keep MERGAL 743 container in a cool, well ventilated area, store indoors protected from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Best storage temperature for MERGAL 743 is 5C to 30C.
In case of settling MERGAL 743 should be mixed or agitated before use.

Protect MERGAL 743 from freezing.
If MERGAL 743 is chilled, propeller agitate.

The low viscosity liquid can be easily handled.
Residuals in containers, piping and equipment can be rinsed out by water.

Shelf life: 1 year.

Health And Safety of MERGAL 743:
For the most updated and complete information, please refer to the most current Safety Data Sheet.
MERGAL 743 is a suspension concentrate.

For best distribution MERGAL 743 can be stirred up before use.
Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage or disposal.
