NAPHTHALENE SULFONATE

CAS NO: 130-14-3 / 1321-69-3
EC NUMBER: 204-976-0 / 215-323-4

Naphthalene sulfonates are derivatives of sulfonic acid which contain a Naphthalene functional unit.
A related family of compounds are the aminonaphthalenesulfonic acids.
Of commercial importance are the alkyl Naphthalene sulfonates, which are used as superplasticizers in concrete.
They are produced on a large scale by condensation of naphthalenesulfonate or alkylnaphthalenesulfonates with formaldehyde.

Examples include:
amaranth dye
amido black
armstrong's acid
congo red
Evans blue
suramin
trypan blue

Naphthalene sulfonates can be used in a variety of applications.
Naphthalene sulfonates with excellent wetting and dispersing properties.
The Nease portfolio of Naphthalene sulfonates includes products which vary in foaming tendency – from medium to low. Additionally, they offer acid and base stability, hard-water tolerance and high temperature stability.

Nease Performance Chemicals is an industry leader in high-performance Naphthalene sulfonates. Several different series of Naphthalene sulfonates are available to fit specific applications.
Naphthalene sulfonates can be utilized in water-based cleaners such as carpet shampoos, automatic dishwashing detergents, and industrial detergents, as well as in emulsion polymerization, photographic solutions, and agricultural formulations.
One grade of Naphthalene sulfonate can also be used as a dispersant in many areas, which include textile chemicals, pesticide formulations, cements, emulsion polymerization, pigments and dyestuffs, and leather tanning.

Naphthalene sulfonate is a very effective anionic dispersant for dyes and pigments.
Naphthalene Sulfonate shows low foaming property, has good heat stability.
Naphthalene Sulfonate is highly resistant to acids and alkalis.
Naphthalene sulfanate is used for dispersants of disperse dyes and is also used as a dispersant and leveling agent of various dyes.
Naphthalene Sulfonate exhibits excellent dyeing ability. Naphthalene sulfanate is also good for improving wetting.

With an excellent dispersing property, a small amount results in good leveling and good absorbency of paints and pigments without any separation.
Naphthalene sulfanate is stable at a temperature above 100 °C.
Naphthalene sulfanate maintains its dispersibility over a wide pH range, pH: 2-12.

Usage areas
Naphthalene Sulfonate does not cause foaming and can be used with anionic or nonionic surfactants.
Dispersant of disperse dyes: By adding 10-50% by weight Naphthalene sulfanate, the wettability, grinding and migration properties of the powder dispersion are improved and a secondary fluctuation is prevented.
Auxiliary dyeing agents: By adding 0,1-2% by weight of Naphthalene sulfanate to the dyestuff, excellent migration and leveling properties of the dyestuff are obtained.
Pigment dispersants: When making aqueous and emulsion paints, 0.5-3% by weight Naphthalene sulfanate is added to the pigments to obtain excellent wetting and permeability.

Naphthalene sulfonate, an effective anionic dispersant, is used for pigmentation and dyestuffs. Naphthalene Sulfonate is used as a dispersant, wetting enhancer and leveling agent of some paints.

Naphthalene Sulfonate is a low foaming material with high heat stabilization.
Naphthalene Sulfonate shows high resistance against alkali and acids. Even a small amount allows the paint to be dispersed easily and the paint pigments to be well absorbed.

Naphthalene sulfonate, resistant to acids, salts and alkalis, has good heat stability.

Naphthalene sulfanate, which remains stable at temperatures above 100 °C, maintains its ability to disperse the dye in the pH range of 2-12.
