Applications:
-Raw materials for cationic surfactants and amphoteric surfactants. 
-Corrosion inhibitors. 
-Raw materials for emulsifier for asphalt, old release agents for rubber, flotation agents, anti-caking agents for fertilizers, fuel additives, etc.    
-Commercially, Oleyl amine is mainly used as a surfactant or precursor to surfactants.
-Oleyl amine is used in the chemical synthesis and capping of nanoparticles such as Fe3O4, poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-graft-poly (ε-caprolactone), titania, mesoporous silica.
-Oleyl amine is distilled oleyl amine-based emulsifier and dispersing agent. 
-Available as a light-yellow liquid (at 20°C), is suitable for inks, paints and coatings.
-Oleyl amine is anti-corrosion.
-Oleyl amine has also been used in the laboratory in the synthesis of nanoparticles. 
-Oleyl amine can function both as a solvent for the reaction mixture and as a coordinating agent to stabilize the surface of the particles. 
-Oleyl amine can also coordinate with metal ions, change the form of metal precursor and affect the formation kinetics of nanoparticles during the synthesis.

Oleyl amine is an organic compound with a molecular formula C18H35NH2.
Oleyl amine is an unsaturated fatty amine related to the fatty acid oleic acid. 
The pure Oleyl amine is a clear and colorless liquid. 
Commercially available oleyl amine reagents vary in color from clear and colorless to varying degrees of yellow due to impurities. 
The major impurities include trans isomer (elaidylamine) and other long chain amines with varying chain lengths.
Minor impurities include oxygen-containing substances such as amides and nitroalkanes.
Oleylamine (OAm) is a long chain primary alkyamine, that acts as an electron donor at elevated temperatures. 
Oleyl amine exhibits affinity to metals through NH2 functional groups. 
FTIR spectra of Oleyl amine has been reported. 
Oleyl amine acts as strong reducing agent as well as a stabilizer in the synthesis of nanoparticle.
Oleyl Amine is a colorless to yellow liquid and is insoluble in water.

Chemical reactions    

Oleyl amine reacts with carboxylic acid to form its carboxylate salt through an exothermic reaction.
Oleyl amine's carboxylate salt can further condensate into amides through the loss of one water molecule.


Safety
Oleylbamine has an LD50 (Intraperitoneal) of 888 mg/kg in mice, however note that it is listed as a level 3 health hazard on the NFPA diamond, so it should be handled with caution.


Storage
Oleyl amine should be kept in dark place, inert atmosphere,room temperature.
