PEG 6000, Poly(ethylene glycol) 6000, is a high quality research product used as multipurpose polymer of ethelyne glycol for various biochemical, molecular biology and molecular diagnostic applications.
PEG 6000 is a polethylene glycol with a mean molecular weight of 6000.
PEG 6000 is a solid in powder form.

PEG 6000 is a preformulated reagent kit designed to provide a rapid screening method for the crystallization of biological macromolecules
PEG 6000 is a polymer of ethylene oxide with an average molecular weight of 6000.
PEG 6000 is an excellent solubiliser and can be used in a wide variety of home care and I&I applications.

The numbers that are often included in the names of PEGs indicate their average molecular weights, e.g. a PEG with n=9 would have an average molecular weight of approximately 400 and would be labeled PEG 400.
Most PEGs include molecules with a distribution of molecular weights, i.e. they are polydisperse.
Polyethylene glycols (PEGs) are condensation polymers of ethylene oxide and water with the general formula H(OCH2CH2)nOH.

They are the most commercially important type of polyether.
The low molecular weight compounds up to 700 are colorless, odorless viscous liquids with a freezing point from -10˚C (diethylene gycol), while polymerized compounds with higher molecular weight than 1,000 are wax like solids with melting point up to 67˚C.

While PEGs with different molecular weights find use in different applications and have different physical properties (e.g. viscosity) due to chain length effects, their chemical properties are nearly identical.
PEG 6000 (Polyethylene Glycol 6000) is a water-soluble, waxy solid that is used in the cosmetic industry.
PEG 6000 is characterized by less toxicity and less skin irritation.

There is no damage in case of contact with skin or lips.
PEG 6000 is an ester made from the reaction of vegetable-derived triple-pressed grade stearic acid and a defined high molecular weight polyethylene glycol.
PEG 6000, referred to as Polyethylene glycol, is used as an inactive ingredient in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent, plasticizer, surfactant, ointments and suppository base, and tablet and capsule lubricant.

PEG 6000 has low toxicity with systemic absorption less than 0.5%.
PEG 6000 is soluble in water and most organic solvents.
PEG 6000 is a condensation polymer of ethylene oxide and water.
PEG 6000 is susceptible to oxidative degradation in the presence of air.

Minimizing the exposure of PEG 6000 to elevated temperatures and/or exposure to oxygen, or addition of an antioxidant can limit the amount of degradation.
PEG 6000 has been used in many different applications.

A single-step method is described for the activation of PEG for binding to polypeptides and proteins.
PEG 6000 is incompatible with phenol and may reduce the antimicrobial action of other preservatives.
Both penicillin and bacitracin are rapidly inactivated by PEG 6000.
PEG 6000 is also incompatible with sorbitol, tannic acid and salicylic acid and may affect the integrity of plastics.
