PHENODUR PR 521/60B can be combined with high molecular weight epoxide resins and polyester resins to obtain coatings with strong resistance to chemicals, mineral oils, acids, alkalis, organic solvents, and food contact media.

In combination with high molecular weight epoxy resins for low temperature curing interior and exterior coatings of metal packaging containers employed in the food industry.
Usable in epoxy‐free (=BADGE&BisA‐free) formulas with polyester resins.

Dilutability and Compatibility of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:
PHENODUR PR 521/60B is unlimited dilutable with alcohols, esters and ketones.
PHENODUR PR 521/60B is limited diluteable with aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons.
PHENODUR PR 521/60B is compatible with high molecular weight epoxide resins and polyester resins.

Processing of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:
In addition to the standardized curing conditions for metal packaging coatings of approx. 10 ‐ 12 minutes/200°C, combinations of high molecular weight epoxide resins and PHENODUR PR 521/60B in the classical ratios from 60:40 (solid/solid) to 90:10 (s/s), can already be cured from 170° Conwards.
Acidic catalysts, like Cycat XK 406 Ninamounts of 2 ‐ 5% calculated on total binder solid, can accelerate the curing speed.

In multiple layer coatings, the first coats are not subjected to the full cure, the coating system as a whole is completely cured only after the last coat has been applied.
In case of surface defects, more likely with catalyzed systems, the addition of approximately 1 ‐3% of a melamine resin like Cymel 688 (f.o.d. on total weight), acts as an excellent flow agent.
The additives Additol XL 480, Modaflow Resin and Modaflow 2100 can help to improve the leveling further.

The light golden colour of the cured film can be tinted with a coloring resin like PHENODUR PR 308 towards a so called "goldlacquer".

Stability and Reactivity of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:

PHENODUR PR 521/60B is expected to be stable under recommended handling and storage conditions.

Reactivity:
PHENODUR PR 521/60B is a heat-curing phenolic resin and reacts during curing with suitable backbone resins such as epoxy or polyester systems.

Conditions to avoid:
Excessive heat, open flames, sparks, static discharge, poor ventilation, contamination, and unsuitable storage conditions should be avoided.

Incompatible materials:
Strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases, and highly reactive chemicals should be avoided.

Hazardous decomposition products:
Thermal decomposition or fire may produce carbon oxides, phenolic fumes, and solvent vapors.

Handling and Storage of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:

Handling:
PHENODUR PR 521/60B should be handled according to good industrial hygiene and solventborne resin handling practices.

Avoid inhalation of vapors and avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.

Ventilation:
Use good ventilation during mixing, coating formulation, and application.

First Aid Measures of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:

Inhalation:
Move the person to fresh air and keep them comfortable for breathing.

Skin contact:
Wash affected skin with water and mild soap.

Eye contact:
Rinse carefully with plenty of water for several minutes.

Ingestion:
Rinse mouth with water and seek medical advice if discomfort occurs.

Important note:
Because the product is solventborne, do not induce vomiting unless instructed by medical personnel.

Firefighting Measures of PHENODUR PR 521/60B:

Suitable extinguishing media:
Foam, dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide, or water spray may be used.

Fire hazards:
Solvent vapors may form flammable mixtures with air.

Special hazards:
Heating or fire may generate irritating fumes, phenolic decomposition products, and carbon oxides.

Protective equipment:
Firefighters should wear suitable protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.
